ll our walks are graded from one
to five in order to give you an idea of what level of experience
and fitness you will need. These should only be used as
a rough guideline as there are many variables
such as weather conditions, time of year and whether the trip is
guided or self guided that have an impact.
Grade One

Fitness
|
Fit novices and regular walkers will enjoy
this more demanding walking. Between 4 and 6 hours of walking
per day.

Waterproof walking shoes or boots, warm
clothes and waterproof jacket and trousers

Grade Three
|

|
Paths may be rough and broken
at times. Sections of moderate ascent and descent.

Fitness
|
You should be relatively fit and prepared
for up to six hours of challenging walking in the day.

|
Good walking boots, waterproof jacket and
trousers, warm clothing

Grade Four
|

Rough paths, steep ascents
and some broken ground.

Fitness
|
Previous hill walking experience recommended
and you should be in good physical shade and have sound
navigational skills. 6 - 8 hours.

|
Full hill walking kit including three season
boots, waterproofs, warm clothing and safety equipment.

Grade Five
|

Rough paths and steep ascents
and descents. Broken ground with route finding required

Fitness
|
You are a mountain man/woman whose body
is a finely honed walking machine. Strong hill walking
and navigational skills required. Could be up to 9 or 10
hours of walking

Equipment Required
|
Full hill walking and safety equipment.

Notes:
The level of experience and fitness does vary considerably,
please contact us should
you be unsure of a walks grading or your own ability.
Self-guided skills: Both the West
Highland and Great Glen Way are well waymarked. You should still
be able to read a map and we do recommend you bring a compass
and know how to use it in the event of poor visibility. (Although
this is hardly ever necessary)
