Starting Point: Thetford
Your first night will be spent in Thetford as there is limited accommodation in Knettishall Heath. You will then be transferred to Knettishall Heath the next morning to start your walk. (included) .
Transfer to Knettishall Heath and Walk to Little Cressingham—14.5 Miles (23.20km)
The first stage of the walk is a gentle introduction to the trail. The trail leads you out into the magnificent open farmlands of East Anglia. The paths are well maintained at the start of the journey and they introduce you to the most magnificent of English countryside.
Little Cressingham to Castle Acre—12.5miles (20km)
Before setting off from Little Cressingham this morning why not pay a visit to the ruins of St Andrews Church, or take a stroll down to the old water and wind mill built around1821. As you head out of Little Cressingham the walk follows a straight track along the lightly wooded farmlands and countryside. Expect pleasant walking as the route undulates gently to the north. This part of the walk gives a real historical feel where you can visit the renovated church of St Mary’s and to view the amazing 11th century wall paintings.
Castle Acre to Sedgeford—13.5miles (21.6km)
Castle Acre is an old Medieval village which overlooks the river Nar. Whilst here why not take a visit to the remains of the Norman Castle where the village takes it name from. You can also head down to the banks of the River Nar where the Cluniac priory a fabulous English Heritage site lies. As you leave Castle Acre you will find that this part of the path Is uninhabited and services can be scarce so make sure you have everything you need before setting of in the morning. This is the part of the walk were you can get away from it all and embrace the solitude of the surroundings especially as you head further north. Expect to walk next to some minor roads on this section of your walk.
Sedgeford to Holme-Next-The-Sea—6 miles (10.4km)
The village of Sedgeford is centred around a stone church thought to be partly Saxon in origin. It is here that the remains of Roman villas and other artefacts from the Iron Age have been discovered. This section of the walk follows a very straight path out of Sedgeford and further into the north before finally the chalk based rock and the sea will come into view as you reach the Norfolk Coastline.
Finishing Point— Holme-Next-The-Sea
A quiet hamlet and 'The gateway to the Coast' Holme-Next-The-Sea is the perfect end to this walk as you can relax and have a walk along the beach before either heading off or starting the Norfolk Coast Path in Hunstanton just 1.5 miles along the road.
