300million years in the making, The Dales Way is formed in the
East from great slabs of limestone have been scarred and broken
throughout the ice age to form deep vertical planes and isolated
hills. In the West you will enjoy the landscapes formed by the
movement of the earths surface which pushed ancient rock to the
surface creating the splendour of the Lake District.
The path undulates from valley floors to hawthorn laden uplands
all the while clinging to the edges of the ever diminishing river
Warfe.
Every turn brings more and more splendour with fantastical waterfalls
and unforgettable views. As you head towards the Lakes, you amble
down Dentdale and finally the walk climaxes in the shadows of
Howgill Fells.

| Highlights |
The Dales Way crosses three National Parks which provides
lots of interesting and varied landscapes to enjoy. This riverside
walk passes a multitude of ancient settlements and historical
land marks; however the river itself as trickles and crashes
at different point on the way. Strid Wood is where the river
becomes feisty and the landscape becomes dramatic. If you have
an interest in geology this walk is for you, the three different
areas are richly diverse in there rock formations and have
inspired sculptors like Henry Moore and Barbara Hepworth. It
not all nature though as there is some fantastic architecture
on the way both in the villages you pass and isolated churches
and manor houses along the Way. |
