The Hill on the Wall
/Accommodation/Hill_on_the_wall.jpg)
The House....An Act of Parliament in 1555 made it compulsory for everyone living
in the twenty mile wide Border Zone to build their own defences against reivers
and cross-border raiders. Not everyone complied but the owners of 'The Hill'
did. In 1595 this 'bastle' was built and while it has all the comforts of the
21st century its original characteristics have been tastefully retained. The
Hill has been transformed into a wonderful
B&B and one of our personal favourites .Visit

The Centurion Inn
/Accommodation/Hadrians%20Wall/Centurion_Inn.jpg)
The inn has served the area since the late
18th century and remains at the very core of village life, playing
host to the Post Office as well as to local darts and dominoes
teams, etc. It was known as The Black Bull as recently as 1974
when it was discovered that part of the building stood on the actual
route of Hadrian's Wall. A Roman connection beckoned and The Centurion
came into being. Sympathetically modernised over the years the
building still maintains the look and feel of a centuries-old inn.
