Getting to alternative start points:
If you are starting your walk at an intermediate start point first
make your way to Newcastle or Carlisle. Regular trains (every 30
minutes) run between the two cities and the line follows the Hadrian’s
Wall Path fairly closely. Services tie in fairly well with local
bus services and again I recommend using the Traveline Service
for planning your exact journey.
You will find also find a list of taxi operators for each station
here http://www.traintaxi.co.uk .
During the summer a dedicated bus service The Hadrian’s
Wall bus AD122 runs the length of the wall and also connects
with most rail stations, towns and points of interest. Once again
you
will find further details here.
Travel along the walk:
Due to illness, injury or inclement weather you may wish to skip
sections of the walk (hopefully not). During the summer months
the Hadrian’s Wall bus is generally the easiest option,
alternatively your hosts will be able to supply a taxi number
or call Traveline for local transport information.

Getting
from Carlisle/Bowness-on-Solway
The main access point for the western end of the Hadrian’s Wall path
is Carlisle. The actual walk finishes in Bowness on Solway, 14 miles west
of Carlisle. This is a small hamlet and transport links are not
particularly frequent.
The no.93 bus provides a link from Carlisle to
Bowness on Solway and the communities of Burgh by Sands and
Port Carlisle. Maryport
is served by the no. 300 service. The AD122 Hadrian’s Wall
Bus also serves the town in season. Again Traveline
is the best way to plan this section of your journey.
A PDF of the Carlisle/Bowness Timetable is also available to
here. Click
here.
Carlisle taxi firms that take bookings and would
be able to do a pickup include Radio taxis 01228 527575 – City 01228
520000 – Beeline 01228 534440
