Coast to Coast Walk Overview

The Coast to Coast is one of the world’s great walks! Alfred Wainwright, famous for his pictorial guides to The Lakeland Fells, stitched two coasts, three national parks and 191 miles of footpath together to create the ultimate long distance walk in England. It may not be the longest or toughest walk but it more than makes up for it in quality. The Coast to Coast gives the perfect snapshot of England and some of her most picturesque villages, lakes, mountains and moors.

Starting on the Irish Sea Coast under the cliffs of St Bees the Coast to Coast soon enters the picture perfect landscape of the English Lake District, which Alfred Wainwright described as “paradise on Earth”, and when it comes to walking we certainly can’t argue. Rolling hills and immaculate farmland soon bring you to the Pennines and the outstanding scenery and rich heritage of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A welcome flat section hurries you into the North York Moors, a special place encompassing a huge variety of landscapes. All too quickly you will find yourself walking along the cliffs above the North Sea and down into the fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay.

To make the Coast to Coast accessible to the widest range of walkers we offer a huge range of itineraries. The very fit can walk from coast to coast in 12 days whilst others may prefer to take up to 16 days to complete the walk. You can also split the walk into two sections of a week or so.

Our Coast to Coast walking holidays include hand-picked overnight accommodation in high quality B&B’s, country inns, and guesthouses, daily door to door baggage transfers, guidebook, detailed map and pre-departure information pack as well as emergency support. So you can relax and enjoy the Coast to Coast.

Highlights:

  • The Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Yorkshire Moors National Parks.
  • The stunning landscapes on fells and lakes that make up the Lake District.
  • Varied, engaging and interesting walking throughout the route.
  • The wonderful camaraderie and chat between fellow “coast to coasters”.
