We recommend flying to Rome and then catching the train from Rome Ostiense Station to Bracciano. Bracciano is just under an hour away from Rome. After checking into your hotel and taking a look throught your detailed route notes and information pack, you can explore the wonderful ancient town of Bracciano, situated in a dominant position above the lake and one of the most charming towns in the area. Visit Bracciano’s castle and wander through the romantic and evocative labyrinth of its Medieval lanes and spend some time with a chilled glass of wine in front of the placid waters of the lake.

Overnight: 3* Hotel Bracciano

DAY 2 Cycle to Trevignano Romano—24km

If hiring a bike, your bike will be delivered to your accommodation shortly after breakfast.

On leaving Bracciano, you cycle along the tranquil, unspoiled lakeside following a winding road circling the lake until you reach the medieval town of Anguillara Sabazia. Take time to stop and enjoy the Culinary delights while soaking up the historical atmosphere of the town. Back on track enjoy pedalling with the lake at your side to Trevignano Romano, a small village of Etruscan origin where you will spend this night. Enjoy a drink by the lakeside, wander the pretty village streets and visit the local tourist attractions. Or why not just relax watching the sun go down over the lakeside.

Overnight: B&B Trevignano Romano

DAY 3 Cycle to Civita Castellana — 41km

Today is one of the longest days cycling, however this is rewarded with a day packed with a multitude of fantastic visits. Firstly to the frozen mountain falls, a refreshing break set amongst the thick trees, then its back in the saddle to the pre Etruscan town Mazzano Romano. Cycling through rolling hills you will reach old Calcata, a medieval village evacuated in the 20th Century and now repopulated by artists, craftsmen and intellectuals. Then its to Faleria, another charming medieval village. Finally after a wonderful cycle through the rolling hills you will arrive in Civita Castellana, an ancient town steeped in history, also famed for ceramics, ideal for those who may fancy a spot of shopping!

Today’s cycle takes you to the mysterious ruins of the Roman city of Falerii Novi, totally untouched and set among the great city walls. After a look around these fascinating ruins, you cycle in the beautiful lush countryside until you reach the ancient town of Fabrica de Roma, a great stop for a well deserved refreshment! Now its time to get ready for a ride uphill on the slopes of the volcano whose flooded caldera formed  lake Vico. Your destination today is the town of Ronciglione one of the most beautiful medieval towns of central Italy, with renaissances palaces and beautiful castle. The spirit of this town will soon capture you.

Once back on the saddle take a slow pace on the undulating roads to visit Bassano Romano and then Oriolo Romano tucked away amongst woods and fields.
