This fascinating and rewarding journey alongside one of Britain’s Iconic landmarks makes for a great short break walking holiday. It follows the central section along the most preserved areas of the wall. Hadrian’s Wall is Europe’s largest surviving Roman monument and a UNESCO world heritage site. The Path was opened in 2003 and follows the course of this Roman barrier closely along it’s entire length, it is fast becoming one of Britain’s most popular long distance paths.

Your journey starts in the picturesque village of Corbridge which is located just south of the wall, after your night here you head up to follow the path of the Roman Wall. The walk takes you through the wonderful empty landscapes of Northumberland and then on into Cumbria, finishing in Gilsland. Along the way you will be constantly amazed by the ingenuity and determination of the Romans in their quest to control this far flung corner of their vast empire. The wall is punctuated by regular forts, milecastles and turrets as well as regular museums and visitor centres to assist you in your journey of discovery. Not forgetting of course that you will be walking through some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery that England has to offer. Anyone with an interest in photography will be handsomely rewarded with magnificent light and breathtaking subject matter.
