Hadrian's Wall Walk Overview

A walking holiday on Hadrian's Wall gives you the time to Immerse yourself in the history of Hadrian’s Wall. This is a fascinating and rewarding journey alongside one of Britain’s Iconic landmarks. Hadrian’s Wall is Europe’s largest surviving Roman monument and a UNESCO world heritage site. The Hadrian’s Wall Path was opened in 2003 and follows the course of this Roman barrier closely along it’s entire length, it is fast becoming one of Britain’s most popular long distance paths.

Your journey starts in the vibrant city of Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and takes you through the wonderful empty landscapes of Northumberland and then on into Cumbria, finishing at the mouth of the River Solway amidst the outstanding natural beauty of the Solway Firth. Along the way you will be constantly amazed by the ingenuity and determination of the Romans in their quest to control this far flung corner of their vast empire. The wall is punctuated by regular forts, milecastles and turrets as well as regular museums and visitor centres to assist you in your journey of discovery. Not forgetting of course that you will be walking through some of the wildest and most beautiful scenery that England has to offer. Anyone with an interest in photography will be handsomely rewarded with magnificent light and breathtaking subject matter.

Macs Adventure offers a wide range of outstanding independent self-guided walking holidays on Hadrian’s Wall. Your holiday is tailor made for you and you can choose from a range of itineraries that cover the entire 84 miles of the trail or perhaps just choose to sample the central section of the wall on one of our “Best of Hadrian’s Wall” itineraries.
