Self Guided Walking Holidays & Cycling Holidays

St Jacob's Trail

Follow in the footsteps of St Jacob on this pilgrim trail through Salzburg, into Bavaria then finishing in the pristine valley of St Johann in Tyrol. Visit historic churches which have been welcoming pilgrims for thousands of years as you walk through the foothills of the Alps. Meander through lush green valleys with dramatic mountain views and enjoy lakeside and forest walking. This is the perfect walk which explores this tranquil area and lets you discover the rich history of pilgrim life.

Your holiday starts by the side of Lake Wallersee where you spend your first evening. Heading south, you follow the trail through forest trails passing many important chapels to Salzburg. Its worth spending an extra night to explore ‘Mozart’s birth place. Crossing the German border you enter the Spa town of Bad Reichenhall and then shortly after you enter the Tyrol region of Austria and follow the trail south. You pass the small town of Waidring and after visiting St Jacobs church you finish the walk in St. Johann.

Fabulous walking is combined with traditional chalet Hotel accommodation. You will stay in 3 star Hotels with breakfast included each morning. Baggage transfer and great backup are of course included to ensure that you enjoy every minute of your stay in this alpine region of Austria.
