Scotland Kayaking & Multisport Adventure (Self Drive) Map and Itinerary

DAY 1 Arrive & Travel to Oban

You can collect your rental car from either Edinburgh or Glasgow. You then head west to the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park. Enjoy a relaxed walk on the banks of Loch Lomond before visiting Inverarary, Loch Fyne.

After lunch continue north through the majestic scenery of the Western Highlands to reach Oban.

Overnight: Connell Bridge

After a busy day check into your loch side inn and enjoy a meal of excellent local seafood.

DAY 2 West Coast Sea Kayaking

The west coast of Scotland is a world class sea kayaking destination. At 9:30am you meet your guide, get kitted up and hit the water for an initial introduction and gentle paddle around Oban Bay.

After lunch you paddle the 10km to our hotel in Connel Bridge. Here you can pull our kayaks up on the beach and head straight to the pub. More experienced kayakers will love the challenge of the Falls of Lora and paddling in Loch Etive.

Overnight: Oban/Connell Bridge

DAY 3 Kayak Connel Bridge to Port Appin

A cracking day of paddling through some of the West Coast's best scenery. Kayak from Connel Bridge to Port Appin (15km). Otters, seals, eagles and castles are regular sightings, although only the castles are guaranteed. If the weather is good we will explore the Island of Lismore on a short afternoon walk.

Overnight: Port Appin

Situated right at the water’s edge your hotel in Port Appin enjoys panoramic views of Lismore and the Isle of Mull. Their renowned Scottish Seafood Restaurant is a real treat.

DAY 4 Kayak Port Appin to Kentallen

Your final day of paddling through the romantic mountains and lochs of Scotland’s West Coast, with perhaps the highlight being the unexpected arrival at the impossibly scenic Castle Stalker. At the end of the day’s paddling you will be taken back to Oban to collect your rental car.

Overnight: Kentallen

Your hotel in Kentallen, complete with spa and leisure centre, enjoys an idyllic loch side location so we can just pull our kayaks up on the lawn at the end of the day. This is your base for the next two nights.

DAY 5 Walking in Glencoe

Glencoe is Scotland’s most famous and dramatic glen. Steep sides cry huge waterfalls and the dark history of this dramatic place will send a shiver down your spine. There are a number of spectacular walks which explore the glen and your information pack highlights the very best.

Overnight: Kentallen

DAY 6 Loch Ness & The Highlands

Today you go in search of the elusive Loch Ness Monster and discover castles, myths, battlefields and some of the very best scenery the highlands has to offer. But don’t worry, you will be spending plenty of time out of the car walking, exploring and soaking up the atmosphere.

Your destination for the day is Aviemore, gateway to the Cairngorms National Park.

Overnight: Aviemore

Aviemore is a busy little town and real outdoor Mecca, your family run hotel is perfectly situated to explore the shops, cafes and outdoor stores.

DAY 7 Mountain Biking

Rothiemurchus Forest is a unique eco system and a mountain biking paradise. After collecting your bikes you can explore the forest trails on two wheels which gives plenty of time to watch wildlife, enjoy the view and discover the hidden secrets of Rothiemurchus.

Overnight: Aviemore

DAY 8 Castles & Rafting

Your first stop should be Blair Castle, home to Europe's only private army, the Atholl Highlanders, as well as a plethora of other treasures. The tranquillity of the castle gardens is a stark contrast to the excitement of rafting the River Tummel which is your afternoon activity.

Overnight: Pitlochry

The Victorian Spa town of Pitlochry has so much to see and do including a couple of distilleries.

DAY 9 Drive to Edinburgh/Glasgow

After breakfast head south to Edinburgh, stopping at the Wallace Monument, before arriving at this wonderful city around lunch time. This brings your adventure in the Scottish Highlands to an end! Overnight: Not Included
