Isolated cove on the coast of Menorca Watchtower on the Cami de Cavalls Ciutadela, Menorca Rugged coastline on the North of Menorca Cala Galdana Beach

Menorca: The Cami de Cavalls

Discover the authentic countryside and stunning coastline of Menorca as you walk the ancient the Cami de Cavalls, the Path of the Horses, around the coast of Menorca.

Dating the 16th of 17th century the Cami de Cavalls is an ancient pathway which was originally used by bands of armed men defending Menorca from invaders as they rode between coastal watch towers. This ancient and very beautiful pathway has recently been reopened and way marked as a GR long distance walking path.

Ringed by 140 sandy beaches Menorca is the greenest and most authentic of the Balearic Islands and the perfect destination for a relaxing walking holiday. Get acquainted with the true beauty of life in the Mediterranean: deep blue bays, white sand beaches, spectacular cliffs, rolling hills, quiet farmland, historical towns, and ports full of tiny boats and seafood restaurants.

Your walk begins and ends in the capital of Menorca, Mahón (also written Maó). Each day, you walk a section of the Cami de Cavalls, circling the entire island over the course of 6 days. You will walk the most interesting sections of the Cami de Cavalls and with the help of an occasional taxi transfer or bus ride, skip the less interesting parts.

You start off walking northwards into S’Albufera Natural Park, then along the coast to reach Cape Favaritx and the fishing village of Fornells. The next few days, your walks will take you past varied scenery: enormous watchtowers, steep cliffs, peaceful orchards and bizarre prehistoric structures.

As you walk, you’ll come to appreciate the island’s natural beauty and understand why Menorca was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1993. Intriguingly varied plant life surrounds you, as you walk from beach to beach and village to village.

Day five brings you to the friendly port town of Ciutadela, before you move onward, along the busier south coast were you traverse deep ravines and Mediterranean woodlands on your way back to Mahón.

Your walking holiday on the Cami de Cavalls in Menorca includes 7 nights accommodation in hand picked hotels of character, baggage and taxi transfers as required by the itinerary, a detailed information pack, route notes and maps as well as emergency telephone support.

Highlights:

  • Enjoying fabulous coastal and countryside walking on a historic route.
  • Swimming in the clear blue sea at a deserted sandy cove along the way.
  • Discovering the rich history and prolific plant life of this magical island.
  • Strolling through sleepy fishing villages and bustling seaside towns.
  • Enjoying an authentic sea food feast at a harbour side cafe.
