Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn Highlights (Huts)

Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn. Chamonix to Zermatt. The Walkers Haute Route connects the two most famous mountains and mountaineering centres in the Alps. Based in mountain huts our Highlights of the Walkers Haute Route includes the best sections of this unbeatable Alpine adventure.

Although a very challenging walk the Walkers Haute Route does not require any mountaineering skills and is the perfect challenge for any enthusiastic walker, who wants to experience the best scenery the Alps have to offer.

Your walk begins in Chamonix, at the foot of Mont Blanc, before crossing the Col de Balme into Switzerland. The next stage takes you around the northern shoulder of Mont Blanc to Champex. A transfer to Lac des Dix is followed by a superlative day of walking to Arolla. The Col de Torrent (2918m) and Col de la Forcletta (2894m) are the next big challenges before the final Augustbordpass (2894m) to St Niklaus. You skip the final valley section to Zermatt, where you enjoy a final day of walking in the shadow of the Matterhorn.

On your walk from Chamonix to Zermatt you will experience views of the finest collection of 4000m peaks the Alps can offer, cross high mountain passes, visit remote valleys high in the mountains, wander through flower filled meadows and fragrant woodlands, stumble across quaint wooden hamlets and really get to know the wonderful mountain people of the alps. The Walker’s Haute Route really is a walk of superlatives.

The Highlights of the Walker’s Haute Route includes 3 nights accommodation in small hotels/auberges (Chamonix & Zermatt) and 5 nights in mountain huts, refuges and gîtes during the walk in shared dormitories. Breakfast is included every morning and five dinners on the trail. Baggage transfer is available as an optional extra.

Highlights:

  • Stunning mountain scenery from beginning to end
  • Taking on some of the highest passes in the Alps
  • Wandering through high Alpine meadows filled with flowers
  • Delicious meals featuring fresh local produce
  • Your first view of the Matterhorn from Col de Riedmatten
