Multi Activity Scotland Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
We are often asked the following questions and I hope that you will find the answers useful. Please don’t hesitate to contact us or perhaps visit our forum for more advice from our clients and team.
How fit do I need to be?
You will be outdoors and doing activities every day so you should be used to spending time outdoors and not be too worried about the odd bit of rain or exertion. The Ben Nevis Climb is the toughest day and this is very achievable by people who lead an active lifestyle and enjoy the outdoors. You should be in the habit of doing some form of regular excercise to get the most from the tour.
What experience do I need?
You don't need any prior experience of sea kayaking as all instruction will be given and we assume that you are beginners. You should be able to navigate using map and compass and follow route notes for the two and a half days of self-guided walking.
How far in advance do I need to book?
We suggest you book as soon as your travel plans are finalised as the highlands of Scotland are very popular and accommodation fills up quickly.
What personal equipment do I need?
You will need the standard outdoor gear that you would go hiking in a temperate climate. Generally Scotland is a wee bit short on bikini weather. You can download a full equipment list from our website downloads page.
When is the best time of year?
Every month between March and October has it's advantages and special sights and sounds to enjoy so personally I don't think that it makes any difference. March and April will still be fairly snowy on Ben Nevis and can be chilly at lower levels.
What are the midges like?
Midges are small biting insects (much like north American knats) which are prevalent in the summer months. They are particularly bad on still, overcast days but do not bother you if you are moving, the wind is blowing, sun is shining, it’s raining, or you are inside so as long as you carry repellent for the odd occasion you may need it they shouldn’t have any impact on your experience.
