Lycian Rock Tomb The Eternal Flames of Chimaera Walkers near Cirali Walking to Ramazan's Jetty Gelidonia Lighthouse

The Lycian Way (East)

The Lycian Way follows the south coast of Turkey through a landscape of cliffs, secluded coves, and pine forests. The walk traverses through unspoiled Turkish villages, passing countless ruins from bygone Lycian, Greek and Roman civilisations along the way.

Our self-guided walking on the East section of the Lycian Way starts with a night in the bustling town of Antalya and takes you along the coast to the pretty fishing village of Ucagiz. Breath in the fresh sea air and enjoy taking your time to explore this fascinating country which is steeped in ancient history.

You start your walk with a short transfer to the small village of Ulupinar where you will pick up the path and walk along it to the famous eternal flames of Chimaera which have been burning for thousands of years and are a remarkable sight.

Continue from here on to your base for the next couple of nights at the pretty beach resort of Cirali. Over the next couple of days, follow tracks along the coast between secluded beaches and over headlands and explore the fascinating ruins of the city of Olympos. An exhilarating climb over Musa Dag (Moses Mountain) is next before descending to the village of Adrasan.

From Adrasan, follow wild and remote paths along the coast and up to Gelidonia lighthouse and discover the ruins of Theimiussa and Istlada before ending up at the tiny fishing village of Ucagiz where you can enjoy delicious grilled fish from one of the delightful waterfront restaurants and reflect on your wonderful Turkish adventure.

Highlights:

  • Exploring the ancient city of Olympos with its relics of a bygone era.
  • Witnessing the fascinating sight of the burning flames of Chimaera.
  • An exhilarating climb up and over Musa Dagi Mountain.
  • The warm and genuine hospitality of local people along the way.
