Highlights of the Tour du Mont Blanc in Comfort Map and Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Chamonix

Chamonix is the capital of the French Alps and arriving gives you that tingle of excitement knowing that you are about to begin an adventure. Easily accessible by shuttle, bus and train from Geneva or Chambery airports.

Overnight: Chamonix - Hotel Vallee Blanche
Situated right in the heart of Chamonix this small three star hotel occupies a charming former mill and is a great base.

Day 2: Praz de Chamonix to Argentière

Your adventure begins with a short train ride trip to Praz de Chamonix where you catch the cable car to Flégère (1800 m). Across the valley the Mer de Glace, Aiguille du Midi and Summit of Mont Blanc are just a few of the highpoints that make this one of the most spectacular mountain views in the world.

From Flégère you follow the Grand Balcon on the slopes of the Aiguilles Rouges, enjoying splendid views of the Mont Blanc Massif before dropping down to Argentière for the night.

Overnight: Argentière - Hôtel La Courone

Walk: 3 hours, Ascent: 250 m, Descent: 900 m.

Day 3: Argentière to Champex via Alp Bovine

A 30 minute transfer takes you over the border into Switzerland to the Col de La Forclaz. Rejoining the Tour du Mont Blanc the trail winds through forests and hills giving fabulous views of the Rhône Valley. After passing Alp Bovine (1987m) the trails winds its way down to the pretty lakeside town of Champex.

Overnight: Champex - Pension Plein Air

Walk: 5 Hours, Ascent: 600 m, Descent: 650 m.

Day 4: Champex to La Fouly

Walking through the Val Ferret with its patchwork of peaceful forests and green pastures is balm for the soul. Descending from Champex on some of the quietest trails in the Mont Blanc Massif you soon reach the village of Les Arlaches. This gorgeous village made up of traditional wooden Swiss Chalets seems to have leapt from a postcard. Lunch in Praz de Fort may be appeal but with fabulous mountain views to your right and the green pastures of La Fouly called you on you won’t want to linger.

Overnight: La Fouly - Auberge des Glacier 

Walk: 6 Hours, Ascent: 550 m, Descent: 450 m.

Day 5: La Fouly to Courmayeur

Start the day climbing steeply from La Fouly to the famous Grand Col Ferret (2537 m) where you cross into Italy. The col promises a unique view of the Grand-Jorasses and Mont Dolent. The glaciers of de Pré Bar et de Triolet loom above you as you descend to Arnuva, where you will get the local bus to Courmayeur.

Courmayeur is a bustling mountain resort and has plenty of great restaurants to tempt you with a little treat.

Overnight: Courmayeur - Hotel le Vieux Pommier

Walk: 6 Hours, Ascent: 950 m, Descent: 800 m.

Day 6: Courmayeur to Les Chapieux

A local shuttle whisks you to Visaille (1659m) where you start the most fabulous day of walking. This southern side of the Mont Blanc Massif is much steeper and the views of l’aiguille de Peutrey and Mont Blanc de Courmayeur are splendid. The highpoint for the day, Col de la Seigne (2516 m), marks the border between Italy and France.You continue to la Ville des Glaciers (1789 m) where you catch the shuttle to Les Chapieux.

Overnight: Les Chapieux - Auberge de la Nova

Walk: 6 Hours, Ascent: 900 m, Descent: 950 m.

Day 7: Les Chapieux to Notre-Dame-de-la-Gorge via Col du Bonhomme

A tough 800m climb awaits as you leave Les Chapieux towards the Col du Bonhomme (2329m). This rugged col surrounded by toothy peaks was a former smugglers crossing between Les Contamines and le Beaufortain. Leaving this last splendid high mountain view behind you you gradually descend through the woods to Notre-Dame-de-la-Gorge, where your walk ends. Transfer by public transport to the valley and your hotel in St Gervais Le Fayet.

Overnight: St Gervais Le Fayet - Hotel Des Deux Gares

Ideally situated for the station and Mont Blanc tramway this chalet style three star hotel is the ideal finishing point.

Walk: 6 hours, Ascent: 950 m, Descent: 1250 m

Day 8: Depart St Gervais Le Fayet.

Catch the shuttle, bus or train back to Geneva (1h30) for your flight home or continue your holiday in France.
