7 Best Travel Apps
Load an app or two on to your mobile phone and discover new attractions and destinations as you travel. These apps make a great addition to a walking or cycling holiday.
Field Trip imgres-1Free Android and iOS Google Play and Apple store Using your phone’s location services, the apps tell you what there is to see and do nearby. So, you can discover local restaurants, shops, historic sites and even special deals. If you are exploring by car, set the app to “speaking” mode for a hands-free experience.
Stray Boots imgres-3Free Android and iOS Google Play and Apple store This app combines the typical content of a city tour, including historical information and themed itineraries, with a treasure-style hunt that asks you to find things, solve riddles, take crazy photos, and answer trivia questions. It’s a great app for families and children that want to tour a place in a fun way. You can also set up challenges to earn points and compete against each other.
Cities Talking imgres-5Free to download, then from £4.99 per tour Android and iOS Google Play and Apple store Cities Talking offers 21 audio guides, mostly in Europe but also including New York and Washington in America. Simply download, pay for a tour (around £4.99), press play and start walking. Cleverly, the historical info begins automatically as you approach each site because the app knows where you are thanks to your phone’s GPS. The content is downloadable so you do not need a wi-fi connection for it to work.
