Comments about Introduction to Mountain Biking Course :
I had no experience of mountain biking so wanted a course that would explain the key skills and give me an opportunity to try them out. The content of the course and the excellent instruction from Andy ensured that my objectives were met. What I particularly liked was that Andy did not move us on until he was satisfied that we had reached a reasonable level of competancy, he was unfailingly patient, yet he was willing to adapt the programme to allow us tackle more demanding skills/routes as our confidence grew. The venue itself is excellent and the bike hired from the Hub was of a very good standard.

Comments about Introduction to Mountain Biking Course :
Having bought a mountain bike the year before and having used it a fair amount in the six months prior to the course, I felt it was time to learn some proper skills. Biking friends can offer a wealth of advice and do enjoy passing on hints and tips, but there’s a point at which you start to feel uncomfortable about taking up so much of their time. Occasionally they can pass on bad habits too and don’t understand why you’re not picking up something that feels so completely natural to them!!

A dedicated skills course such as this is the perfect place to go right back to basics and perfect the essential novice skills first, such as braking and cornering correctly. Building on these elements, our course then slowly took us through more advanced techniques, as our confidence grew. We spent the first day pottering about the skills park, get tailored advice whilst our instructor Neil watched what we were and weren’t doing correctly. We then ventured out onto the trails, where we were able to use these skills with varying success!! By day two however, we’d all markedly improved and whilst not blasting down the trails per se – had definitely increased in speed, technique and confidence.

I’d wholly recommend this course – and indeed have. I did however come away with a slightly over-inflated confidence and subsequently crashed with a trip to A&E for stitches the following week – but I think that was more to do with me showing off than anything!! Certainly hasn’t put me off though and I look forward to taking the intermediate course later this year..

My Dad and I took part in the August skills course and I can’t recommend it highly enough! Andy was brilliant at both encouraging us to push ourselves and keeping us tuned in to the essential key skills for safe and effective biking. I would never have been able to get as much out of my mountain bike without his expert guidance and he was very good at diagnosing any problems we had in our technique. Really good fun and I’ve been enjoying Glentress almost every other week since -I’m hooked! Thank you!

Comments about Introduction to Mountain Biking Course :
I attended the one-day course. I’ve tried my hand at mountain biking and have had my bike for 5 years. I was a bit worried that the intro course might be too basic and that I wouldn’t learn much. I was wrong. My MTBing horizons have been brodened and I learned a lot, including simple things like how to get more out of my gears. Andy, the tutor, was friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. It was relaxed yet pacey enough to get value for money. The trip down ‘electric blue’ was 1st class – an exhilirating experience. My only regret is that I didn’t do the two-day course.
I’ve totally got the bug back and can’t wait to get back to Glentress. I will certainly use MAcs for further tuition and would rcommend others attend this course.

Comments about Introduction to Mountain Biking Course :
Just to let you know that I had an excellent weekend at Glentress Mountain Biking. The bike that you hired for me was top of the range and excellent to ride. In addition the instruction given by Keith Irvind on mountain Biking was top class. He gave very thorough instruction that was lead at the pace of the riders and got us to learn a whole load of techniques that I thought I knew but after the course found I could do a whole lot better. Although I class myself as a fairly experienced mountain biker I chose to do this introductory course and found it very useful indeed. He is an excellent instructor who I would recommend to anyone. I will be booking an intermediate course in a couple of months time so I have time to consolidate what I have already learned.
Thanks once again for an excellent weekend

Comments about Introduction to Mountain Biking Course :
My wife and I were keen mountain bikers but lacking in technique so we decided to start from scratch and booked with Mac Adventures in Glentress.

Everything about the course was first rate. Andy, our guide, was supportive, professional and informative and our group had a friendly camararderie. We learnt loads and have become much better bikers as a result of completing the course. Glentress as a mountain bike centre was great, as everyone was there for the same reason (it remided us of skiing). We went riding in the forest after the course finished and it didn’t disappoint! We booked into a B and B in Peebles but it had changed hands and was amusingly naff.

We’d definitely use Macs again (anywhere). Ask for Andy if you’re thinking about a similar break in Glentress; he makes it all tons of fun (even when you fall off!). More than worth the money.

Comments about Introduction to Mountain Biking Course :
The courses are perfectly set up to get to grips with trail riding and really getting a good feel for your bike. Covering all the very basics, from how to use your brakes and setting up your bike correctly to how to cope with drop-offs and efficient cornering.

Totally changed my riding style for the better.
