We went in early July. The beaches were virtually deserted even on the two very sunny days. As the tide was well out during most of our walking we chose the beach options where relevant: huge seascapes and a profusion of wild flowers on the dunes.
This was our third trip with Macs and as expected the organisation was flawless and the accommodation never less than good and some excellent.

Despite this we had a thoroughly enjoyable week experiencing good weather conditions.

In general the accommodation provided was good although in two places the bathrooms were not en-suite and one had to cross public areas of the establishments to access them. In two places also, the bathrooms had showers only and no bath – in my view a bath is particularly welcome for this kind of holiday as you can relax and soak after a tiring day of walking. The place which stood out for us was the Bamburgh Hall Farmhouse in Bamburgh. Like something out of an Anthony Trollope novel, excellent and welcoming hosts, a relaxed house style, excellent breakfast, interesting decoration and very spacious rooms. The list of accommodations we were provided with by MACS left a little to be desired. No directions were given to Stamford Farmhouse which was at least 3 miles from Craster, where that stage of our walk ended. It said only that one could ring for a lift stating what time one would arrive in the morning if one wished to be picked up – but who would know what time one was likely to arrive. When we got to Craster my mobile had no network connection and we were forced to rely on the kindness of friendly locals willing to devote 10 minutes of their time to draw a map for us! Also the list’s description of the village of Fenwick (where our penultimate B&B was situated), as “fantastic” was curious to say the list. Without wishing to offend the good citizens of the town, from a travellers point of view a place without either a shop, a pub or a restaurant within walking distance is not “fantastic” – and this would have been good information to have known in advance!
