Comments about Pennine Way Walking Holiday :
My son and I really enjoyed and valued this experience. We thought it overall very well planned and organised by Macs. The places selected for the overnight stops were mostly of a very comfortable standard, with welcoming hosts. Some (e.g Ponden and Kirk Yetholm) were outstanding./Three mild criticisms:
(i) customers new to this walk need to be advised that some unslabbed parts of it on the sections north of Hadrian’s wall, verge on impassable when the ground is as wet as at present — journey times are significantly extended and the risk of blisters greatly increased.
(ii) The B&B selected for our night in Thornton in Craven was a significant distance from the nearest available dinner after a long day, — we weren’t able to sit down for our meal till just after 9pm! Use a different B&B or reroute?
(iii) Better instructions and mapping was needed to find the Barrowburn farmhouse when descending from Windy Gyle on the Cheviot ridge. In the event, with dark approaching, we had to call the farmer who very kindly came out in his car to rendezvous with us.

We did the middle section and enjoyed it but we missed out the day over Cross Fell–21 miles, large climb to start, 4 up+downs, a tricky bog on top to navigate (esp in mist as it was on our day)followed by 7 miles of stoney road and then 5 miles across a wet moorland.
Macsadventures very good service and gave us exactly what we asked for in terms of daily walking distances between stops and excellent accommodations. Bag carrying arranged by them without a single hitch.
