Comments about St Cuthbert’s Way Walking Holiday :
Each of our B and B hosts were ready for us and most helpful. At Moorebattle we met a couple who are restoring a church as a call by centre which will be part of the St Cuthbert’s Pilgrimage.
A myriad of new discoveries.

St Cuthbert’s Way allowed us to wind down and relax and enjoy the varied landscapes, walking in 4 seasons in a day! A delightful finish awaited us on Lindisfarne.

I really enjoyed the experience, although I was pretty tired at the end of every day. Accommodation was generally very good – unfortunately one B and B not quite as good as the others (but the bed was the most comfortable). All the B and B proprietors were welcoming and friendly. Way marking was generally good with a couple of exceptions.

The walk was very well organised – even rang to check we were OK when late to B & B. The signposting was excellent except in Wooler but guidebook and map was very explicit. Only one B & B was awful but slightly redeemed with comfortable beds. The walk was challenging at times especially the steep muddy sections but great fun and we are now all hooked on long distance walking and planning the next one.

Comments about St Cuthbert’s Way Walking Holiday :
This is a walk with a destination – and a unique destination at that. Holy Island is a very special place, whether you are a believer or not, and arriving there after an exhilarating 7-day walk is an unforgettable experience. Macs Adventure did everything possible to ensure a truly memorable holiday: a good guidebook and map, efficient baggage transfer, and a nice mix of B&B’s and country inns. St Cuthbert’s Way is very ‘user-friendly’, with good waymarks and mostly easy terrain, even when steep. Shame that on the two longest days (Kirk Yetholm-Wooler-Fenwick) there is no mid-way stop for refreshment, but the views more than compensate. This was our second walk with Macs (after Hadrian’s Wall) and we can’t wait for the next one!

Comments about St Cuthbert’s Way Walking Holiday :
Overall all 4 of us loved the holiday. It went really smoothly, everybody was expecting us etc. Special mention for Mary from Linton Farm who was so friendly and generous with her time and her car. We loved the posh house in Jerburgh and they were also a very helpful and generous couple.
The Yeltholm farm was where we had the dinner at the house and I would say it was not value for money. We did not ask the price before hand but in hindsight it would have been more fun and cheaper to eat at the pub in the village. Overall everyone was friendly and helpful but another special mention for the hotel at Lindisfarne island. They went beyond the call of duty, we were soaking when we got there, so they provided tea and scones and fluffy dressing gowns and serious funny entertainment from the husband! They were just first class.
We would go on another trip with Mac, so that is praise coming from the 4 people who took this trip!!! Loved it all espeically meeting the farmers on the Cheviots who had lost their sheep and we helped to spot them for them. That was a lovely encounter, also met 2 men training dogs by the Tweed and that was another lovely encounter.

Comments about St Cuthbert’s Way Walking Holiday :
The holiday plans were very good and the baggage transfer perfect. The accommodation was varied. We voted Buccleuch Arms best all rounder,Allerton House had the best bed but the star of the holiday was Mary Ralston at Linton Farm. She could not have been more kind or considerate. One place we questioned its four star status, in another we were given a disabled room and one the welcome was poor even off hand.

A successful walk thanks to Mac’s care and attention to organisational detail. The walk itself passed through varied scenery and could be adapted to varying daily lengths. There was superior management and waymarking of the path in Scotland – Northumberland take note!
All in all – we have no hesitation in recommending ‘Mac’s Adventures’.
