Comments about The Amalfi Coast Walking Holiday :
We just completed a fully guided 7 day walking trip on the Amalfi coast. We were a group of 19 and the local guides were excellent. Hotels were excellent, very well located, and very friendly. Guides assisted with setting up restaurant meals which was very helpful. Defintely recommend this trip [...]

Comments about The Amalfi Coast Walking Holiday :
Over all, we had a ball and the Amalfi Coast is spectacular. The organization was great, taxis were where they were supposed to be, hotels expected us and hiking directions were excellent. Since the maps were not very good, we certainly appreciated the descriptions of where to go. There were more stairs than I have ever seen and I was glad we were in good shape. I would mark this hike as moderate to difficult in that some days we climbed over 2000 steps and that was only up.
Our only complaint was about two of the accommodations. The hotel in Amalfi was nicely located, but it lacked any spark, the staff were OK but not particularly helpful and the rooms were clean but I would have appreciated a bit more upscale for our first night. The hotel and the town of Agerola could be skipped as far as we were concerned. The hotel was not particularly welcoming and the rooms were old and dingy. There was really no place else to eat in town so two nights of meals in the hotel was less than wonderful. Since the towns are so close and we took buses to the start of some hikes I would eliminate this town and perhaps spend an extra night in Amalfi (at a different hotel) and an extra night in Praiano. Hotel La Perla in Praiano was wonderful and we could have easily spent three nights there. The staff was helpful and welcoming and we ate one meal there and another in town. There were plenty of places to go.Our choice to spend the last two nights on Capri instead of making a day trip to Capri was a super choice. Capri was extremely crowded with cruise ship passengers during the day and to have the chance to wander around beautiful Capri in the evening was certainly a treat. And the hotel in Capri was an incredible way to end the holiday, luxury, fantastic staff and great facilities. Overall, we loved our trip and would definitely recommend it to others.

As Gayle is now off for a short while to have her baby, I am going to be looking after our European trips. So what better way to start than to head off to Italy for a short trip to meet some of our local suppliers and partners, and sample the delights of a couple of our Walking Holidays in Italy! Here are some of my highlights and photos to wet your taste buds.
- The stunning Footpath of the Gods – hence my grinning face in the photo opposite! This walk is featured on both our standard Amalfi Coast and Amalfi in Style walking holidays and trust me, it is very aptly named!
- The warm, friendly Italian welcome from our local partners and accommodations on the Amalfi Coast.
- The mouthwatering Italian food and drink – pizza, pasta and seafood galore!
- Exploring the picturesque gardens of Villa Cimbrone in the pretty hamlet of Ravello.
- A stop at the rural village of Agerola to experience part of the Amalfi Coast which is a bit off the beaten track.
- Arriving in Montepulciano and discovering the beautiful B&B L’Agnolo – this place makes you feel like you are staying in your very own palace with huge rooms and exquisitely adorned high ceilings! Princess for the night!
- Trying out some of the local specialities of the area such as Pecorina Cheese and the delicious Vino Nobile di Montepulciano – this is one of the best red wines to be sampled in Tuscany.
- A wonderful day’s walking with Giuliana, one of our local partners from Montepulciano to Pienza – as we sat and enjoyed lunch in Montichiello looking over the rolling Tuscan countryside with all its beautiful golden and brown colours I couldn’t help but feel i’d been dropped off in heaven!
- Walking around the beautiful medieval city of Siena with its Gothic Cathedral, the bustling Piazza Il Campo and its many delightful gelateria.
- A stop in Florence before heading home – would recommend this to everyone visiting the area. Florence is a really beautiful city with so much to see and do and made the perfect end to my Walking Holiday in Italy!

Overall fantastic trip that was rewarding and enjoyable. The hotels were very good with one exception. At Agerola rooms were dusty, towels were thin, grey and scratchy and the staff were just not interested. Advice given to us was incorrect and service non existent. Was a “Fawlty Towers “experience. Not up to the usual Mac’s high standard, especially given the write up in the notes.Maps and notes were an excellent standard. Just the Tre calli day was a bit unclear. Only recommendations for improvements would be to integrate activities in notes eg the opportunity to swim in the Fiorde. Thanks for a fantastic trip.
A treat for the eye not just the feet.

Walking guides very clear and concise. Lots of options for bad weather/lazy days.
Location just fantastic.
Tip :- always carry spare bus tickets with you as you can’t buy them on bus.

Comments about The Amalfi Coast Walking Holiday :
The walking was a bit more challenging than expected. Very spectacular. Was a bit disappointed in the accomodation except for the hotel tramonte d’oro in priano. Otherwise would recommend the walks. Notes and documents are reasonable. Would be a good idea to mention possible swimming spots on the walks esp if you are walking in July when it is incredibly hot.( I’m from Australia and have walked in central Australia and these walks were really really hot). There are actually some great swimming holes and waterfalls on a couple of the walks which are a real highlight.Marcello, the local agent was very helpful.

Preparitory matters handled well by Gail.
Local contact, Marcello, was helpful.
The daily route descriptions were very good considering the many ways one could get off the trail and we wern’t lost once.
We particularly liked the charts showing the contours of each days route.
We would certainly use Macs for a future trip.

Comments about The Amalfi Coast Walking Holiday :
The Amalfi trip was well thought out and the instructions were very useful and accurate. When we ran into trouble with bad weather, the staff was very helpful. Nothing but praise for Mac’s on all fronts. We also had beautiful rooms in all the hotels, which were all of good quality. There was a nice variety of walks and different types of surroundings. The Amalfi coast is gorgeous, and there is so much to see and do, the only drawback is that you may exhaust yourself trying to take it all in. Don’t miss the magical city of Naples while you’re there.
