Areas of expertise: Adventure Sales Specialist
I have just joined the team here at Macs Adventure in Glasgow! The common thread running throughout my varied background is a love of adventure travel. From an early age, my parents took me and my siblings on holidays to the north of Scotland, along the West Highland Way, hiking in the rain and mud at weekends and driving long-distance to France – there was never a dull moment!
As soon as I finished school I took a sabbatical year out working in Chile as a TEFL Teacher. It was incredible; such a confidence boost to travel solo, overcome language barriers and experience a totally new way of life! The Chilean landscapes were breath-taking and thus my love of mountaineering surfaced. Throughout my early 20s, during and after University, I taught in English Academies in Central America and then closer to home in Northern Spain, always taking every opportunity to get out into the nearby mountains. I even managed to do the magical Camino de Santiago one summer. Usually, my decision on where to live and work was dictated by the proximity of mountains, sea and forest trails.
A new chapter started about 7 years ago when I started to embark on a career in the Outdoor Industry. I qualified as a Mountain Leader and began working with school groups on their month-long overseas trips around the world. This led to some phenomenal trips to India, Tibet, Tanzania, Botswana, Borneo, Vietnam and Cambodia to name a few. Each experience was a wonderful way to learn about another culture, embrace new landscapes and contribute to their local economies.
I still have the travel bug but it is dormant at the moment! I enjoy soaking up Scottish Adventures in my free time from hiking to cycling to skiing to kayaking. It is brilliant to be a part of such an adventurous company here at Macs!
