This cycling tour is graded easy to moderate. The route is mainly even and along tarred cycle paths. Daily distances are between 35 km and 55 km. You don’t have to be an experienced cyclist but leading an active lifestyle which includes cycling will help you enjoy the trip. It’s always a good idea to get on the bike for several back to back days in the lead up to the trip.

How far in advance do I need to book?

We suggest you book as soon as your plans are finalised as this trip is extremely popular especially during peak season from July to August.

When is the best time of year to go?

Spring at Lake Constance is from around May to June. Flowers quickly blossom and timbered houses over spill with colourful flower boxes. July and August is the best of the weather but can be busy. September is just in time for end of the wine season and can also have superb weather without the crowds.

What personal equipment do I need?

You will need comfortable sports shoes, comfortable clothes for cycling, waterproof jacket and trousers, a helmet and a sunhat. We supply a detailed packing list with your information pack.

Great trip

We have used MAC Adventures before and as usual we were thoroughly pleased with the trip they organised for us. We chose the centre based ride around Lake Constance because this adventure was at the end of our Six weeks travel in Europe. It was heaven to unpack and enjoy the comfort and facilities of the hotel they organised. The only thing that we will do differently next time is hire Ebikes as we found some of the rides are a little hard using the heavy cruiser style bikes that were hired. However that was our choice at the time. Will definitely use Mac Adventures again

Lake Constance Cycling - Loved it

I loved that all the information was in one booklet (vouchers etc). It would have been helpful though, to get a detailed itinerary before the trip, rather than on the day the trip started. On day 2, there was not enough bike riding, our group did not want to spend the whole day looking at flowers. On day 3, we found the maps and directions confusing. Overall, we had an amazing time though.

Attractive location, great hotel & bikes but some roadside

Administration at Macs Adventure was impressive - very swift communicators and responders to our queries prior to departure, and with everything executed per arrangement(for guide, voucher and map pack and bike availability) upon our arrival. ABC hotel where we were based is great quality - friendly, helpful staff, lovely large clean light & airy room with a small but welcome kitchen facility, and with an extensive hot and cold breakfast selection that was constantly replenished. Our bikes handled by the operator Radweg were high standard - robust and responsive, and although a sticky gear-change issue developed on one of them the problem was swiftly resolved by the immediate issue of a replacement bike. The arrangement of just leaving them locked outside the hotel at the end of our stay was also very welcome. The location is lovely - beautiful lakeside destinations and the ferry connections to the cycle routes via the supplied voucher book worked very well. The hotel itself was also very conveniently situated just a fifteen minute walk from Konstanz Old Town. The only negative feedback we have is that some of the routes, although on dedicated cycle paths, are unfortunately roadside for some stretches - a few of which were quite busy with traffic which detracted from the overall enjoyment of the outings. However we came away happy with the overall experience in terms of quality of administration, accommodation, location, destinations and kit.
