  • Enjoy a guided walking tour of the iconic sights of Paris
  • Brie cheese tasting at Meaux

Combine bicycle and boat along the Rivers Seine and Marne as you journey from the chic streets of Paris to the Champagne houses of Epernay. In the heart of Paris, downstream of the Pont Neuf and Notre Dame, join fellow cyclists aboard the MS Zwaantje. Begin with a guided tour of Paris and discover the artistic treasures of Da Vinci and Caravaggio at the Louvre. Visit architectural icons such as The Eiffel Tower and Pompidou Centre to name a few. Cycle to the cheese producing town of Meaux where we’ll taste wheels of locally produced Brie. Pedal onwards to World War I sites of Château Thierry before rolling into Epernay’s ‘Avenue de Champagne’. Here, at the home of Moet et Chandon and Mercier we round the week off with afternoon tasting class at a major Champagne house.

Grade & Terrain

This tour is graded moderate, and in order to fully enjoy this cycling experience, you should be a fit and well-practiced cyclist. The daily distance ranges between approximately 17-52km and will include some uphill cycling as you cycle through the hills and Champagne vineyards. You will ride along dedicated cycle paths, quiet country lanes, as well as some un– or semi-paved roads and tracks. Enjoy the scenery alongside the rivers as you visit the vineyards, villages, and towns of this region. If you prefer to have a day of rest, it is also possible to skip the bike ride and relax on board while the ship cruises to the next town. There will be some busier stretches of cycling as you approach and depart towns, so please always be mindful of other road users.

Navigation

You will be issued with tour specific route notes, maps upon arrival. Your onboard tour guide will also give you a briefing each evening or morning about each route. Each ride is guided, so you do not have to worry about finding your way. On days where there are 2 route options (longer and shorter route), the tour leader will make a choice together with the group. You will always have an emergency telephone support number.

Accommodation Information

You will spend each night on the boat in your very comfortable cabin. All cabins are located on the main deck. Your boat is always docked at night and only sails during the day.

MS Zwaantje

A classic river barge manned by an experienced multi-lingual crew.  The boat is 40 meters long, with a maximum capacity of 24 guests so it provides an intimate atmosphere, perfect for getting to know your fellow cyclists throughout the week. On the main deck, you will find a nice and cozy salon with air-conditioning and large panoramic windows, a restaurant area, a lounge, and a small bar. Depending on the quality of the network connection (mobile internet, limited data amount), the salon offers free Wi-Fi. The barge has a very spacious sun deck (90 square meters / 860 square ft.) with chairs and tables and a beautiful view, where you can relax or join the skipper in the wheelhouse. All cabins have a small en-suite bathroom with toilet, shower and washbasin, a fixed window (both double cabins have larger windows that also open) and individual air conditioning.

Single Cabins & Solo Cyclists

Single cabins are available for a supplementary payment. This trip is also available to solo cyclists (with a supplement) and is perfect as there are plenty of people to chat with every day.

Getting to the Start

The MS Zwaantje will be moored in central Paris at Quai de Bercy which can easily be reached via the Metro train system or a taxi from one of the major train stations. Boarding time on the MS Zwaantje begins at 5 PM.

By Air: Paris has two airports, Charles de Gaulle in the North and Orly in the South. Both airports are served by a wide number of scheduled and low-cost airlines and connect through to central Paris via Metro train and bus services.

By train: Paris Gare du Nord connects through to London (4 hours) whilst Gare du Lyon in the south of Paris provides high-speed TGV service to southern French cities. You can check timetables and book tickets on the Eurostar website.

By car: You can also reach Paris by ferry or via the Eurotunnel. Journey time from Calais is around 4 to 5 hours. More information on ferries and Eurotunnel can be found at Direct Ferries or Eurotunnel.

Parking: Parking in Paris is at a premium and we, therefore, we suggest using a reputable car park information service such as Car Parking EU.

Getting from the End

Epernay train station offers regular train service to Paris Gare-de-l’Est (which can connect through to all major Parisian transport hubs). Journey times range from 1hr30mins to 2hrs. Please check the SNCF website for ticket times and prices.

Equipment

Bike Rental: The bikes onboard are 7-gear unisex hybrid bikes with pedal brakes and are included in the cost of your trip. All rental bikes are equipped with a pannier (saddlebag). Helmets are not provided. Please bring your own helmet with you for safety reasons. E-Bike Rental is available at an additional cost if you would like a power-assisted ride. Due to very restricted space on board, there is limited availability to bring your own bike – please check with us.
