Discover the very best of Burgundy on this short break, inn to inn walking holiday, from Dijon to Beaune. Walk through UNESCO world heritage designated vineyards and peaceful woodland on the ‘Chemin des Grands Crus’; a trail through Côte d’Or wine country passing the famous Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beuane regions. Stop along the way for tastings in local caves and relax at the end of the day in charming hotels and guesthouses. A gastronomic hot spot, enjoy some of the most decadent and imaginative dishes France has to offer, as well as hearty classics like beef bourguinon.

This walking tour in France’s Burgundy region is perfect for wine connoisseurs and foodies. The walking is easy-going with ample opportunity to stop for wine tastings along the way. You will be walking on a mixture of paved/unpaved quiet country roads and woodland trails. Stay in a mix of 3* standard hotels and guesthouses.

Grade & Terrain

This trip is graded ‘easy-moderate’ with average daily distance being 14km. The walking is mostly flat, and two rest days are included. While there are a few hills, these are short and nothing too strenuous. The trails are a combination of tarmac country roads, dirt trails and woodland trails. This tour is suitable for walkers with good physical fitness.

Stay 2 nights in 3* hotels and 2 nights in comfortable guesthouses. Below is an example of the accommodations we use on this trip. These accommodations are subject to availability and therefore alternatives of an equal standard may be offered.

Breakfasts are included each day. Packed lunch items can be bought locally from supermarkets or the local boulangerie. Dinner can be purchased in each town, there are several choices and you will be spoilt for choice! Beaune is home to two Michelin star restaurants and Dijon has several- so why not treat yourself to the ultimate gastronomic experience?

When To Go

This tour is available from mid-May to mid-October. Any time within this period is ideal for walking. The grape harvest tends to take place the last week of September (variable) so please note that the vineyards will be busy during this time, with a lot of activity going on. This is an interesting time to be in the area, but be aware that there will be more vehicles on the small country roads than normal. 

Getting to the Start

Fly: into Paris Charles de Gaulle, Orly or Beauvais airports. Take a train or bus from the airport to the city centre and from the centre (Gare de Lyon) take a direct TGV train to Dijon (approx. 1 hour 40 mins). Train times and details can be found at www.sncf.com.

You could also fly into Lyon or Geneva and take the train from there (3 hours/3 hours 30 mins)

Train: Eurostar from London St-Pancras International to Paris (Gard du Nord). Change here and travel to Paris Gare de Lyon (by RER) From Gare de Lyon, take a direct TGV train to Dijon Ville (approx. 1 hour 40 mins). The total journey time is approx. 5 hours and the whole trip can be booked at www.eurostar.com.

Drive: From Folkestone, take the Eurotunnel shuttle to Calais, and continue driving from here. From Calais, it is about a 5 hour drive to Dijon. Booking and more info can be found at www.eurotunnel.com

Drive and Ferry: Drive to Dover and take the ferry to Calais (approx. 1 hour 15 mins crossing). Then drive onto Dijon (approx. 5 hours drive). Ferry info and booking can be found at www.poferries.com

Getting from the End

On day 7, you will be transferred from your hotel in Meursault to Beaune train station. From here you can take a train back to Dijon (approx. 30 mins). Train details can be found at www.voyages-sncf.com. From Dijon you can take a TGV train to many locations in France and Europe, or continue home via one of the methods mentioned in the ‘Getting to’ section. 

Baggage Transfer

Your bags will be transferred from your accommodation as per your itinerary and moved onto your next overnight accommodation. We ask you to limit your luggage to one bag of up to 20kg per person.
