The Cumbria Way - the perfect introduction to the Lake District!

When most people think of the Lake District they think of lofty peaks, energy-sapping climbs and tough descents. And that it can sometimes be! However, the Cumbria Way offers anybody who feels like they are not quite ready for that challenge a really lovely introduction to the Lake District!

Because the route largely makes use of the valley routes to wind its way from Ulverston to Carlisle, you will find that most of the walking is fairly low-level. That doesn't mean however that it is boring - far from it! Even whilst you are walking in the valleys, you are surrounded by the Lake District fells including the Old Man of Coniston, the Langdale Pikes and Skiddaw.

The beautiful Mickleden Valley

So even though you may not be climbing the fells all the time, you still have the wonderful feeling of being immersed in the Lake District! And there are a couple of steep climbs to keep you interested - Stake Pass and High Pike will certainly leave you feeling rewarded when you get to the top!

The Cumbria Way also crosses the Lake District from South to North, meaning that you get a really good sample of the different parts of the Lake District. From the quieter, less well-travelled routes around Coniston Water and Langdale in the South to the busier Derwent Water, it offers a great snapshot of the Lake District at it's best.

So if you're thinking of venturing into the Lake District but feel a bit apprehensive about some of those bigger climbs then why not consider the Cumbria Way - you won't be disappointed!
