Another memorable experience is a 2-hour cruise through the Sound of Raasay with a backdrop of the Cuillin Ridge. Look out for golden- and white-tailed sea eagles, and you're also likely to see common seals and possibly even dolphins or porpoises surfing alongside the boat's waves. If a cup of tea and a slice of cake is more your style, you can relax in a café and do a spot of souvenir shopping. Calmac also operates a ferry service from nearby Sconser to Raasay (25m) if you prefer to explore one of the islands on a gentle walk along its coastline and secluded beaches with far-reaching views of Skye. The path takes you above North Bay towards Raasay House and offers views across the Red Hills before reaching the tiny capital, Inverarish, which has a small whisky distillery.

If you’re keen to explore Skye’s mountains and coastline on foot, then we recommend taking a bus (25 mins) to The Storr; a rocky hill on the Trotternish peninsula. It is the longest geological landslip in Britain that has exposed the innards of an ancient landscape sculpted by volcanic activity.
From here you will walk along the wild and remote coastline before returning to bustling Portree by bus.

After breakfast it's time to leave Skye behind and begin your onward travel. You can return to Glasgow by bus from Portree or by taking the bus to Fort William and continuing your journey by train to Glasgow or elsewhere in Scotland. The journey south to Glasgow on the West Highland Railway Line is spectacular; soak up the last of the Highland scenery as you speed through glens and across moors.
