From the comfort of a boutique river lodge, explore the historic town of Kanchanburi and the River Kwai by bike on this short tour of Western Thailand. Beginning in Bangkok, transfer to Kanchanaburi, gateway to Thailand’s lush national parks and famous ‘Bridge Over the River Kwai’. Explore the town’s cafes, market stalls and of course, the bridge, before hopping into the saddle for a riverside ride to your boutique lodge, on the fringes of Sai Yok National Park. Over the next two days, cycle through forests and villages where you will visit the World War II memorial sight of Hell Fire Pass and take a train journey on Death Railway, a section of the former Thai-Burmese Railway. Returning to Bangkok by way of private transfer, you can continue you discovery of classic Thai noodles and coconut curry dishes with a chilled Tiger Beer!

What To Expect

This tour is graded easy to moderate. Each day, cycle with your guide through forested villages or along the banks of the River Kwai where you will discover the modern and ancient history of Kanchanbrui and Western Thailand. Integral to your exploration will be sampling world famous Thai dishes. With bike rental included, spend 2 nights in a 4* riverside lodge, the perfect base for active travellers looking to discover a taste of Thailand by bike.

Activity Level & Terrain

This cycling route follows quiet country roads, straightforward forest trails and busier routes when passing through villages and towns. Please  always be mindful of other roads users at all times, especially when cycling on routes shared with traffic. 

Navigation

The tour is fully guided, with a minimum group size of 2 and a maximum of 10 (please see availability for full details). After being collected from your hotel in Bangkok, you can kick back, relax and enjoy the experience of travelling and cycling through Western Thailand under expert guidance.  Each day the guide will navigate you through the lush countryside to all the historic points of interest. You will also have the comfort of being provided with a support vehicle, should you no longer want to cycle or need assistance with your bike.

Accommodations

Stay 1 night in a riverside 3* hotel, and 2 nights in a 4* river lodge. Accommodations are subject to availability and therefore alternatives of an equal standard will be offered should the following be unavailable.

Single Rooms & Solo Cyclists

If you are travelling with friends or family but prefer single rooms this is possible subject to availability and a supplementary payment. As this is a group tour if you are travelling as a single cyclist and do not wish to a pay a single room supplement it'spossible you can be paired with another solo traveller of the same gender.

Meals

All meals from breakfast on day 2 through to lunch on day 4 are included. Thai cuisine is famous the world over and has something to suit almost every palette. Typically, breakfast comprises of fruits, juices, bread, eggs and noodles along with teas and coffee. Lunches and dinners are fresh and tasty. Hot bowls of noodles, coconut-based curries with rice, grilled fish and chicken skewers are all popular dishes in Thailand. Coconut is an important part of the Thai diet and is used in a lot of dishes!

When To Go

There are no set departure dates for this group tour. This guided cycling adventure can depart on any day from January through to December. Group size ranges from a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 10 persons. As this is a popular tour, simply let us know the date you intend to travel. Please see the website for details. If you would prefer, you can also book your own private departure for yourself and fellow cyclists. Private departures can be easily arranged and are subject to availability and a supplementary fee.

Luggage Transfer

Your bags will be transferred between your accommodation when you change hotels. We ask you to limit your luggage to one bag of up to 20kg per person.

Equipment

Bike hire is included in the cost of the holidY.  A 21 Meridia speed hybrid bikes (or similar) will be provided for the duration of the tour and comes with a handlebar bag for your personal possessions along with a water bottle. Your guide is on hand to help with any issues with the bike. Helmets are included, although your own is likely to be a better fit.

If you would prefer to bring your own bicycle please ensure it is thoroughly serviced and is an appropriate bike. If you do intend to bring your own bike, please do let us know at the time of booking as extra transfer arrangements may be required for any large bike cases/boxes.

Travel Insurance

It is a requirement of booking this tour with Macs Adventure that you have suitable travel insurance which covers you for the activity and emergency evacuation and hospital care. Prior to departure, you must provide us with your travel insurance details.
