Activity Level & Terrain

This tour is graded moderate, with four days of hiking and a maximum distance of 8 miles. Daily hikes average around 7 miles (4-7 hours) along well-signed and well-traveled trails, regularly monitored and maintained by National Park rangers and staff. The distances and ascents/descents are approximations of the recommended routes.

Please note that while we provide route notes for specific hikes, there are a wide variety of hiking available and the National Parks have visitor centers where you can find additional information for alternative walks.

Navigation

Navigating is easy using the Macs Adventure Navigation App. Your daily hikes will be mapped in the app with GPX tracks, route notes and turn-by-turn directions. All of these resources are available to download for offline use, which is recommended as cell service can at times be spotty within the National Park.

You will be provided with trip specific contact information in addition to 24/7 telephone support from Macs Adventure should you require assistance.

Experience & Fitness

As weather patterns in the American Southwest are often unpredictable and can change suddenly, hikers should be prepared for hiking in the rain or sunshine.

As a rule of thumb, it is best to get an early start for each hike to avoid exposure to the heat in the afternoon as well as crowds.

Accommodations

We specifically hand-picked your accommodations in comfortable hotels to ensure that you enjoy every minute of your stay while exploring Utah. Additionally, each offers individual character and welcoming hospitality.

We offer this trip any time of year but the best time to visit is in the fall or spring months. The Summer months between June - August are very hot so if you do travel during those times you need to be sure you are on the trails early to avoid the peak heat of the day around 3 pm-4 pm. As these locations are year-round tourist destinations, we suggest you book as soon as your plans are finalized to ensure availability for specific dates.

Getting to the Start

By Air

Last Vegas McCarran International Airport has flights from international and national destinations. Alternatively, you can fly into the regional airport of St. George.

Upon arrival to the airport, follow signs pointing you in the direction of the rental car agency to pick-up your rental car. Budget, Enterprise and Hertz are some of the many rental car agencies available to rent from Las Vegas. Driving to St. George from the airport in Las Vegas takes about 2 hours.

For additional transportation services outside the provided itinerary, such as a taxi to a specific restaurant or location, the host at your evening’s accommodation can help assist you in making the necessary arrangements.

General Information

Zion Shuttle

Zion National Park utilizes a public bus system to enter and exit the park. It is first-come, first-served and we are expecting long queues this 2021 season. Here's the link for more detail - https://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/zion-canyon-shuttle-system.htm.

Shuttles will load and depart the Zion Canyon Visitor Center from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. MDT.  Shuttle bus capacities will be similar to pre-COVID. In order to meet safety requirements, each passenger must be seated or have a standing room handhold (railing, stanchion, seat bar, overhead grasp handle). The current shuttle stops will remain the same. Masks are still required while waiting in shuttle lines and while riding the shuttle. Park visitors traveling together are encouraged to maintain separation from other groups and to follow COVID-19 sanitation practices.

National Park Entrance Fees

This trip includes a visit to two national parks and both require a parking pass that can be purchased at the entrance station. We recommend purchasing an annual park pass at $80 (which includes entrance at any US National Park for a full year). Alternatively, you can purchase a week pass individually for both parks for this trip (7-day park pass, $35 per park via cash or credit card, not included). For more information or to purchase a National Park pass online prior to trip departure click this link and visit the national park pass section found within the pre-departure information pack.

Equipment

Our pre-departure information pack has detailed advice and a packing list on what to bring. This includes warm and cold hiking gear, hiking boots, rain gear and lots of other specifics.

Please be prepared by packing all the necessary items for a comfortable trip. If you have any questions about what to take, we'd be happy to share our own top tips and advice.
