Northumberland Coastal Path
Take on a classic walk through a coastal landscape like no other with rugged rocks, dramatic cliffs and charming seaside villages. The Northumberland Coastal Path takes you through a region that is steeped in history and traditions. Once the powerhouse of England, with plundering Vikings, saints and kings, today the quietness and deserted beaches of the Northumberland Coast make for the ideal walking holiday.
Walk along some of England's most unspoiled coastlines and discover its ancient castles and crumbling ruins, including Warkworth Castle and Dunstanburgh. Follow the route as it runs through quiet nature reserves and golden dunes. Pause to admire the seabird colonies and breathe in the fresh sea breeze. Enjoy overnight stays in charming fishing villages that have hardly been changed by time and where a warm Northumbrian welcome always awaits. Don't miss a smoked 'kipper supper' in Craster, a typical seafood speciality. Finish your walk by discovering Holy Island where at low tide you may be able to visit the historic ruins of Lindisfarne Priory. Consider adding an extra overnight in the harbour town of Seahouses for a visit to the rocky Farne Islands to meet the local population of puffins and seals.
