Frequently Asked Questions
Can I really book a walking holiday at the last minute?
Yes - and we'd encourage it. Many of our most popular routes have availability within days or weeks, particularly on classic UK trails and the shorter Camino stages. You can book confidently 10 days before departure on selected routes. What counts as "last-minute" for a walking holiday?
As a rule, we need at least 10 days to confirm accommodation and logistics for most UK and European routes. Some shorter trips and specific dates can be turned around faster - it's always worth calling to ask. The earlier you get in touch, the more options we can offer - but don't assume it's too late until you've checked. What's included in a last-minute walking holiday?
Every Macs Adventure trip - last-minute or otherwise - includes hand-picked accommodation, luggage transfers between each night's stop, detailed route info, and GPS navigation via our award-winning app. You travel independently, at your own pace, with 24/7 support available throughout your trip.Do I need to be an experienced walker?
Not at all. We have last-minute walking holidays at every level, from gentle half-day stages through the Cotswolds to more demanding multi-day routes in the Highlands. Each trip listing includes a clear difficulty rating and daily distance guide, so you can choose something that genuinely suits your fitness level.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I book a last-minute solo walking holiday?
Absolutely. Solo travelling is one of the most popular ways our customers choose to walk, and it works particularly well on self-guided trips where you're setting your own pace anyway. A selection of our routes is available to solo travellers, with no single supplement on selected trips. Our team can advise on the best last-minute solo trips based on your experience and preferences. What are the best last-minute walking holidays in the UK and Ireland?
The West Highland Way in Scotland, the Cotswold Way in England, the South West Coast Path in the South of England, and the Dingle Way in Ireland are all excellent choices for a last-minute walking holiday in the UK. They're well-waymarked, well-served by accommodation, and straightforward to arrange at short notice. What about last-minute walking holidays in Europe?
Our Camino routes in Portugal and Spain are popular last-minute European walking holidays. And our trips to Tuscany are also a great go-to for a spontaneous last-minute adventure.ÂAre these last-minute trips discounted?Â
Not typically, no. These are our standard itineraries that are normally booked months in advance, but by some miracle, we happen to have availability in the next 8-10 weeks.ÂWhat if I don't see the trip I want here?
Give us a call anyway. Many trips have availability that isn’t listed here - we update this page regularly, but the most reliable way to check is to speak to someone directly. We love a spontaneous trip and are genuinely happy to help make it happen.Â

Last-Minute Walking Holidays by Season
Spring (March - May): Ideal for AndalucÃa, Portugal, and the south of France - wildflowers, mild temperatures, and quieter trails. In the UK, the Cotswolds and South Downs come into their own.
Summer (June - August): Peak season for Scotland, Scandinavia, and higher Alpine routes. Long daylight hours and reliable (mostly) weather for UK walks.
Autumn (September - November): One of the best seasons for last minute walking holidays - particularly in Italy, Spain, and Ireland. Cooler temperatures, golden light, and fewer walkers on the trail.
Winter (December - February): A quieter time for last minute walking trips, but coastal and lower-altitude routes in Portugal, the Canaries, and the Algarve remain very walkable.
