7 of the best places to stay on Coast to Coast Walk

The Coast to Coast walk has become a huge favourite of Macs Adventures customers, and having got to know most of the accommodation really well over the past year or so, I thought it was about time to share some of my top tips! As it is such a huge walk, it would be impossible to list everywhere but shows off some of the highlights anyway!

St Bees

Abbey Farm - This place is a real gem and what a great way to start off your walk! Janet and Steve the owners met while doing the walk themselves and means they really understand walkers needs! Large, comfy rooms with luxurious bathrooms and a real coal fire in the lounge only add to the friendly welcome all walkers receive - and this is why it rightfully gained a place in our top 5 B&B's recently. Grasmere Chestnut Villa - Mike and Richard, the owners at Chestnut Villa really make you feel really welcome in Grasmere and their beautiful B&B is the perfect place to stay here. The rooms are beautifully modern and fresh and the breakfast is great, but the stunning views from the rooms are what really makes this place.

Patterdale

Old Water View - If it's good enough for Wainwright himself then it's good enough for Macs Adventure customers! Old Water View is a delightful place to stay in a really beautiful setting in the lovely village of Patterdale. Ian offers a very warm welcome to weary walkers and being a mountain leader himself is able to offer lots of helpful tips and advice.  All the rooms have their own individual personal touches and the breakfasts are delicious - even featuring their own home-made jam!

Shap

Brookfield House - almost every customer who does the Coast to Coast walk comments on the great time they had at Brookfield House and this is all thanks to the wonderful hospitality of Margaret.  Margaret really defines how a B&B should be run - nothing is too much trouble, the breakfasts are out of this world and she really goes out of her way to provide little extra touches to make you feel welcome!  You will definitely wish you could stay here longer!

Keld

Keld Lodge - another favourite with our customers which always gets great feedback.  This former youth hostel has been restored and now offers modern, clean and comfortable rooms and a really cosy, welcoming walkers bar. It also has a lovely location right in the heart of Swaledale and the views from the window are breathtaking. Another one you won't want to leave.

Richmond

Willance House - Laura visited here this year when down in Richmond and was very impressed by the lovely, warm welcome from Colin and Sandra. A great location, big spacious rooms and a warm welcome from the owners here make this a great place to stay in Richmond and would highly recommend adding in an extra night here for some R&R before heading off again.

Robin Hood's Bay

Devon House - again, this place always gets great feedback from our customers. Elaine makes everyone feel very welcome and people always comment on how helpful she is - a nice way to finish your Coast to Coast walk!

I hope this is some help when you are thinking about doing the Coast to Coast and if there is any further information you want about this trip or any walking holiday in England, you can read our guide to the Coast to Coast or don't hesitate to get in touch with us here at Macs Adventure.
