Great walking trips in autumn

There is still hope of a late burst of summer warmth but here at Macs Adventure we’re looking forward to autumn. It’s the season of fabulously colourful foliage, cooler but bright blue-sky days and a chance to explore a quieter countryside on foot. Choosing where to walk in autumn can be tough though! Would you prefer the amazing scenery of Big Tree Country (aka Perthshire in Scotland)? And a cosy pub with a warming fire and a few wee drams of whisky? A fabulous Highland walking tour will take you to the region famed also for castles, heather-clad hills and high-rise mountain landscapes. If you fancy treating yourself to a little bit of luxury this autumn, the Best of Skye In Style is the one to choose. You can enjoy delightful hotels and stroll amid a scenery ablaze with reds, yellows and oranges. Or how about heading overseas, perhaps to Italy? The Chianti In Style Tour lets you feast your eyes on the vines that turn golden at this time of year and treat your taste buds to the white truffles that are harvested in Piedmont in October and November. default-5

Warmer weather walking (although a lot cooler than in the summer months) can be found in the picturesque Greek Islands, for example Island Hopping and walking in Corfu, the Island of Crete Coast to Coast and the Walking the Greek Cyclades: Milos & Santorini In Style. We also huge fans of Provence. Provence is a magical walking tour that follows in the footsteps of the artist Vincent Van Gogh and traces a route across the Alpilles Mountains. Walking and wine also make great partners in Provence and the Secrets of Upper Provence is another great choice for an autumn walking holiday. default-6

Turkey is another autumn walking hotspot. Again, temperatures are lower than in the hot, hot summer season and offer the perfect time for wandering the country. The Lycian Way could be good choice, or Turkey’s fabulous Turquoise Coast. For a dramatic landscape and walking on high, the Dolomites are a fabulous destination in the summer and especially in the quieter months of September and October. Mallorca is also a popular choice for out-of-summer warmth. A Walking in Mallorca holiday offers the opportunity to follow pilgrimage paths through the Tramuntana Mountains, explore the stone artists village of Deia and soaking up the Mediterranean sunshine while enjoying panoramic views.
