Kit review: Bergans of Norway Trolltind jacket
It's always tricky, isn't it? Deciding where to spend your money and what outdoors jacket to go for. That's why Bergans of Norway's new Trolltind jacket could be the perfect thing. The versatile Trolltind jacket can be used for hiking, mountaineering, skiing and in any conditions where windproofing and waterproofing are essential. The addition of a two-way stretch makes it particularly useful for activities where you need to have freedom of movement. Bergans of Norway Trolltind jacket features:
  • Two-layer Bergans-developed Dermizax NX fabric with two-way stretch. Offers waterproofing, windproofing and breathability
  • Lined with wicking Fieldsensor™. This is a unique mesh lining that dries quickly
  • Large hood that can be adjusted to fit a helmet, or not
  • Pockets include front, chest with expansion function, sleeve and inner
  • Long armpit ventilation zips
  • Detachable and adjustable snowskirt
  • Recco reflectors
  • Goggle lens cloth
  • Articulated elbows or great freedom of movement
  • Men and women’s fit.

On test: Women’s Trolltind jacket

images-19I love a jacket that’s versatile and comes with good features.  This Bergans of Norway jacket scores well with lots of pockets, pit zips, adjustable hood, a detachable snowskirt and even a goggle lens wipe. These days many people are keen on a range of activities and to find a jacket that will work well across walking, mountaineering, skiing and even climbing is a blessing. That means it’s one outlay for a jacket that can be worn in a variety of situations. I found that on a general walking day the jacket works very well. It is waterproof and windproof and allows for sweat to evaporate nicely (that’s the breathability aspect). I usually swear by Gore-Tex but the Bergans fabric did a good job and I don’t think you would have better weatherproofing with Gore-Tex. Time will tell if the jacket is durable, like Gore-Tex, but it feels and looks robust enough. The sleeves and torso are nice and long and the women’s fit is flattering. This is not jacket that feels too slim fitting, which means you can add layers underneath. I also like the colours. Mine is a “deep maroon” (looks like deep pink) with bright green zips and features. It’s a funky look for an outdoors jacket. I can see this matching up well with black ski trousers for a good look on the ski slopes, too. The fabric stretch is noticeable and it’s a welcome addition. It’s nice not to feel the struggle of the fabric as you pull on a rucksack and I can see this being an advantage for skiing/snowboarding or ski mountaineering. For a jacket that offers versatility as well as all-round weather-proofing, Bergans of Norway Trolltind jacket is a good choice. See Bergans of Norway.
