The Cathedral is the end point for just about every variety of Camino and many pilgrims enjoyed taking the pilgrims mass inside the cathedral at the end of their voyage, but unfortuately, for now, this has been suspended. But fear not, there are alternatives.
The Cathedral will remain open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., so it will be accessible to pilgrims and visitors, although some parts will be closed off while the work is carried out. The ritual of hugging the Apostle can still be performed in its niche and descend to the apostolic crypt.
The only door that will remain open for access will be the Platerías door in the Platerías square. If you are facing the Cathedral, walk round to your right to find this door. You will likely notice a steady flow of people going this way, so it is easy
They are looking to have this work finished within 12 months, so hopefully the restoration should be complete by 2020.
Unfortunately, during the restoration of the Cathedral the Botafumeiro will not take place.
The daily pilgrims’ mass, at 12:00 noon, will be celebrated in the church of S. Francisco, just 350 m away from
The church of Santa María Salomé (Rua Nova, 31 – 400m away from the Cathedral) will host the celebration of the Eucharist with the following hours:

The Pórtico de la Gloria can be visited booking in advance. The access would be through the museum entrance (Pazo de Xelmírez Door).
