Walk of the Week: King Ludwig Way

A recent review of our King Ludwig Way walk summed the trip up as "a really German holiday", and another as "seeing beautiful Bavaria at grass roots". By "really German", we don't think they mean laden with cliché! Yes, there are tourist draws along the way, which are fascinating to see, but by walking the route you'll see so much more local culture and remote beauty along the way, and have a real (real) experience of Germany.

Stop to admire the views...often!

Ok so the sun might not always shine on King Ludwig Way, but at least you can dance in the rain

Where is it?

Follow one of Germany’s best known footpaths, through beautiful Upper Bavaria to King Ludwig’s Neuschwanstein Castle.

Why walk it?

If you love history & culture, the monasteries, fairy-tale castles (who doesn't love a fairy tale castle?), the vibrant frescos in Wieskirche, and the land filled with legends will leave you fascinated.

The walking is pretty good too! Forests & meadows, the stunning gorge of the Ammerschlucht and views of the alps combine to make each day special. The route was featured in Julia Bradbury’s BBC "German Wanderlust" series.
