What are luggage transfers?

Think of it like your bags taking a taxi while you hike, bike, or stroll from one beautiful place to the next. Each morning, you leave your bags behind, and poof! - they magically appear at your next stop by the afternoon. Our local partners will either keep your luggage safe at reception or deliver your luggage to your room for you.

Okay, it's not actual magic - we work with friendly local companies who know the area inside and out. But it’ll feel magical when you arrive to find your luggage already waiting.

How Luggage Transfers Work (It's Super Easy)

• Pack your bags: Have your main bag ready at reception by the agreed time (usually by 9am). You’ll receive your Macs luggage label either in the post before you travel, or it’ll be waiting for you at your first accommodation if you booked close to your departure date. Simply fill in your name and booking reference, attach the label to your bag, and it’s ready to roll to your next stop.
• We Handle the rest: Our local luggage legends collect it and take it safely to your next accommodation.
• Weight off your shoulders: You spend the day enjoying the route with just a light daypack.
• Arrive and relax: Ta-da! Your bag’s waiting when you arrive. No heavy lifting, no worries.
• Safety first: For peace of mind, keep valuables, important documents, and fragile items with you in your daypack rather than in your main luggage.

Is there a weight limit for luggage transfers? 

Yes, most trips have a limit of one bag per person (15-20kg). This ensures safety for our delivery partners. We’ll give you the exact details in your trip info. It’s usually possible to book an additional bag, with costs varying depending on your route. Just get in touch with us if you’d like to add one.

What should I carry each day? 

Just your essentials! Pack water, snacks, clothing layers, your phone, a battery pack, and the Macs Adventure app for seamless navigation. Remember the app can be used offline to preserve battery life. For a full packing list, head to our packing guides:

Can I trust the luggage transfer service?

What if my luggage is damaged during transfer? 

We take great care in handling your belongings, but in the rare event of damage, please report it to us as soon as possible. We'll work with you to resolve the issue promptly. 

Can I access my luggage during the day? 

Luggage is transferred directly between accommodations, so you won't have access to it until you reach your destination for the day. Make sure to pack anything you'll need during the day in your daypack! 

Do all trips include luggage transfers?

While most of our trips include luggage transfers, some high-alpine routes don’t, either due to the remoteness of mountain huts or lack of vehicle access. If you’re tackling a point-to-point hike with overnight stays in mountain refuges, you may need to carry your overnight gear in a larger pack. But don’t worry - this is always clearly stated in your trip info, and we’ll help you prepare.

Is there a size or type of bag I should avoid? 

It's best to use soft, durable bags or suitcases that are easy to handle. Avoid oversized or overly rigid luggage as it can be challenging to transport and may not fit in transfer vehicles.

What if I need to add extra bags during my trip? 

If you think you may need to add extra luggage, please contact us in advance. We’ll do everything we can to accommodate your needs, but additional fees may apply.

What if something goes wrong?
