Adventure Your Way

The Macs Way of travel is designed to allow you to adventure your way. Our team of destination experts work with you to create your perfect adventure and customise your trip to suit your interests; whether that's a whiskey tour of Scotland, exploring Marrakech’s exotic souks, or adding an extra day to soak up the charm of Capri.

Don't be restricted by a group

You're not restricted by a group so you can start any day you want, go for as long as you want and choose the style of accommodations you want from remote mountain huts or cosy B&B's to superior rooms in elegant hotels. Choose who you travel with, escape with your partner or friends, go on that family adventure you've always talked about or take some me-time on a solo tour.

Enjoy the Freedom

Self guided travel gives you the freedom to explore the world at your own pace, no need to worry about being fit enough to keep up with a group (or others slowing you down). Enjoy an extra-long lunch soaking up the atmosphere of the piazza and sipping a glass of wine. Or reap the rewards of the breath-taking views on the more challenging route on a Tour du Mont Blanc.

Immerse in local cultures

The best thing about not hiding behind a guide is you can fully immerse in local cultures; learn something new, taste unique dishes and mingle with the locals from spontaneous traditional music sessions in a cosy pub in Ireland to bargaining with local villagers at the famous Otavalo market in Ecuador.

Feel secure in making the right choice for your precious adventure time. Don’t take our word for it, our customers describe our trips as ADVENTUROUS, EXCITING and FUN! Read our unbiased trip & service reviews to find out why.

Our Holiday Types

  •  Walking
  •  Cycling
  •  Camino & Pilgrimages

Walking Holidays

Exploring the world on foot, you can truly travel at your own pace, taking in your surroundings slowly and with purpose. The ultimate achievement as you power your way towards your goal. Choose to relax on an easy going trail, or to challenge yourself to reach a once-in-a-lifetime goal. However you decide to do a walking holiday, do it your way. The most popular routes include the West Highland Way (Scotland), the Camino de Santiago, and the Tour du Mont Blanc, or, head off the beaten track to the wild Portuguese coast or rural Japan...
Walking Holidays

Cycling Holidays

Pedal power enables you to see more of your chosen destination. Nothing beats the feeling of freedom as you cover the miles with the breeze rushing by and the sun on your back (we'll try to arrange the weather - but no promises!). Cycling holidays come in all shapes and sizes. For the seasoned cyclist, world class challenges await such as the C2C (England) or the Tour of Tuscany. For novices (or those wanting to take it easy), the ever-popular (and flat!) Danube Cycle Path offers classic inn to inn cycling or bike & boat options. Bike hire can often include e-bike options too...

Camino & Pilgrimages

Follow in the footsteps of 100s, if not 1000s of years of purpose-driven travellers by walking or cycling an ancient pilgrimage trail. Modern pilgrims walk for many reasons, sometimes religious, sometimes spiritual, sometimes for personal growth or to enhance their understanding of the world and its people. The most famous by far is the Camino de Santiago, and specifically the Camino Frances (the French Way) across Spain from the French border, all the way to Santiago, where the world-famous cathedral marks the end of the journey of a lifetime.

Overall worked well. Turn by turn instructions were sometimes way off but following the GPS blue line worked well. Lodging was decent but not exemplary.

I understand the challenges due to Covid but it often took multiple phone calls and emails to receive a response to my inquiries about our Queen Charlotte Track trip and then it would take several weeks to get an answer to my question. I ended up going directly to the company you outsourced to (Wilderness Guides) as they would reply within 24 hours. Also, most of the information provided by Mac’s was wrong! Thank goodness for Wilderness Guides. You should tell your prop,e if they don’t know the answer to a question, don’t guess!
  • Mr Iain McIndoe 22/11/2022
Overall a good holiday - maps/routes and accommodation were great, but you didn't book all the transfers despite repeated chasing from me and in the end I had to arrange one transfer myself and have multiple phone calls to you from Malta to get the others sorted.

The accommodations along our route were great! The Portuguese Travel partners were very helpful, knowledgeable and patient. Overall we had a wonderful trip. The only hesitation I have in giving the highest rating is due to the inadequate communication between us. We had a rather complicated booking, in that we were not all traveling together. We did not receive the Macs packet until our last night at the end of the trip upon our return to Porto. Fortunately the Portugal Nature Trails personnel were able to round us up and held a briefing, the apps were installed on devices and instructions given, you kindly altered some travel options, but we were unaware of them until our briefing in Porto, unfortunately no paper schedule was provided and the on-line instructions did not include specifics. Another concern is that the "moderate" rating for the walk. While the distances were not long, the walking and the route were often challenging. All that said, it was beautiful, the people were so kind and friendly, and we are so glad we had this adventure.

Everything went like clockwork, everything happened when it should have. The accommodation was as good as the location allowed. The backup literature and map were very helpful.
  • Mr Alan Woolf 18/11/2022
Seamlessly connecting hikers with accommodations, and provision of very detailed maps and en-route landscape descriptions.
  • Ms Sheri Burns 17/11/2022
I was disappointed with the level of maps, guidance and directions. Many of the trail directions were incorrect and we ended up not following them and needing to find our own way. We also sent an email to Macs on day 3 asking about transportation for day 5, and they never responded. This was different than my first experience with Macs Adventure, as I thought the level of service and directions were above average previously.

    Excellent. Well organized.
  • Mrs Valerie Fernandes 16/11/2022
Had a brilliant time and could not fault the service we received from Macs. The whole trip went without a hitch and I would not hesitate to recommend Macs. The organisation is perfect and someone is always contactable IF there is a problem
  • Mr William Hasse 16/11/2022
We plan to travel with Macs again in the near future. Their service has been excellent and we have been in agreement with most of their descriptions of the hikes we have been on. There are a few that were a bit underplayed - that we found to be a bit more arduous than as described. On the other hand s few others led us to expect a more difficult time of it.

This was our second experience with Mac’s, this time a rail tour of Scotland. They put together a nice package for us at a reasonable price. Very good choices for lodging, for the most part an easy enough walk with rolling luggage from train station. One minor glitch due to a mistake in booking was sorted in less than an hour and a small financial gesture in response to the error was granted which we really appreciate

Marie from SLO Adventures was extremely helpful; restaurant recommendations were very good; moving our car from Santa Cruz to Monterey worked very well; all accommodations had bay views; bag lunches were best I've had on any previous walk.

We were very happy with every aspect of the trip and will definitely plan another Mac’s adventure soon!

Once again a very good experience on our trip. Booking was smooth and all the logistics were as expected. Our rep (Dan) in the US was very helpful. There was a small hiccup with the app and offline maps. Luckily it was on our last day of walking and we still had the turn by turn instructions. Overall the accommodations were very nice.

Overall excellent but on two occasions I arrived at nominated hotel to be advised it had been changed, breakfast in a number of hotels was at 9.00am which is too late when needing to start that days walk (in particular on one day when I had a 30k walk) plus on a 12k day the hotel room was not available until 4pm when obviously I would arrive much earlier. Whilst I have done a number of excellent Mac’s walks I thought that on this walk they had lost their normal attention to detail.

    Excellent .
  • Ms catriona simms 15/11/2022
Macs Adventure delivered everything that was promised. The accommodations were excellent, communication was very clear both written and verbal. Mac's rep in Tuscany Beppe, was outstanding in his hospitality and helpfulness. This was a trip of a lifetime for my sister and I and met all our hopes and expectations. Thank you, Macs!!
  • Ms May Cole 15/11/2022
Anytime I had questions about my trip, the Macs team was ready and willing to help! I was quite nervous about my first trip to the UK but I felt everything was well taken care of.
  • Tori Daniels 15/11/2022
Macs took care of everything! Accommodations booked, luggage transfer scheduled, everything was seamless. The small inns we stayed in were just charming and the perfect representation of amazing Scottish hospitality! We had our 4-month-old "wee baby" along with us, and Macs was able to help ensure we had accommodations suited for our family. We went in October, which was beautiful with the changing fall colors. It was typical, rainy Scotland but we were prepared with our rain gear and warm layers so it was just fine! The walks were lovely, and just enough challenge. We did all the optional walks along this tour and the views at the end from "Ben-Y-Vrackie" were just spectacular! 10/10 would recommend!
  • Ms Carolyn Webster 15/11/2022
Excellent customer response on every occasion! Lovely places to stay, brilliant on all counts and would definitely use them again
