Trending Regions and Routes for 2027
2027 is the year for adventure. These five routes top the wish list year after year. Here’s why they’re worth planning ahead for.
Tour du Mont Blanc
One massif, three countries, and the finest Alpine scenery in Europe. The Tour du Mont Blanc circles the highest mountain in the Alps through France, Italy and Switzerland – glaciers overhead, flower-filled valleys below, and a proper sense of achievement when you complete another day. It’s a challenge, no question. But it’s one you’ll be talking about for decades. Go traditional with hut-to-hut stays, or take on the trail In Comfort with hotels, luggage transfers and a hot shower at the end of each day. Either way, our Alpine specialists have walked every step – and July and August departures are always the first to fill.
Camino de Santiago – a Holy Year in 2027
2027 is a Holy Year on the Camino de Santiago – the first since 2022, and a once-in-five-or-six-years chance to arrive in Santiago when the cathedral’s Holy Door is open. Whether you walk the classic Camino Francés, follow the ocean along the Portuguese Coastal Way, or start in the mountains on the original Camino route - Camino Primitivo - the Camino crosses three countries and every kind of landscape – quiet farmland, medieval villages, and that unforgettable final stretch into Santiago’s old town. Walk for the spirit of it, the camaraderie of fellow pilgrims, or simply the joy of a long walk with your Compostela certificate waiting at the end. With routes and trip lengths to suit every fitness level, there’s a Camino for you – but Holy Year demand means 2027 dates won’t hang around.
West Highland Way
The West Highland Way is where Macs Adventure began – 96 miles from the edge of Glasgow to Fort William, past Loch Lomond, across Rannoch Moor and up the Devil’s Staircase, finishing in the shadow of Ben Nevis. It’s Scotland’s most famous long-distance trail for good reason, and after 20+ years arranging it, nobody knows it better than we do. Expect big Highland scenery, cosy nights in hand-picked guesthouses and inns, and plenty of Scottish culture along the way – a dram of whisky here, haggis and shortbread there. Finish it, and you’ve earned every bit of the story.
Coast to Coast
Dip your boots in the Irish Sea at St Bees, walk 190 miles across the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors, and don’t stop until you reach Robin Hood’s Bay. Wainwright’s Coast to Coast is England’s great sea-to-sea challenge – three national parks, endless variety, and a finish-line tradition of throwing your pebble into the North Sea. Walk it in one epic go or split it into sections. Either way, 2027 is the year to tick it off.
Hadrian’s Wall
Walk in the footsteps of Roman legionaries on Hadrian’s Wall Path – 84 miles from Wallsend to Bowness-on-Solway along the best-preserved frontier of the Roman Empire. Forts, milecastles and museums line the route, with wide Northumberland views in between. It’s history you can walk through, and one of the most achievable of the UK’s classic trails – ideal if 2027 is your year to try a first long-distance walk.
