Beautiful and Chilled Cycle Trip

Great cycle tour across beautiful countryside, modest distances benefiting from good instructions; accommodation was really good and lovely that each was very different. We added a night in Bordeaux which was fantastic.

Great first cycling holiday

4

This ride was really well organised. Each hotel was different and good in its own way. The first day was particularly stunning through the undulating vines west of Bordeaux. If you like a fairly flat course, this is for you. As a first time holiday-cyclist, it was a great choice - lots of cycle paths and very few hills.Maps worked 90% of the time! Really sturdy bikes - not a single puncture, even with some fairly uneven surfaces. Good communication from Macs before the trip.

Great cycling experience

5

This was a great cycling holiday. Beware the first day of cycling is 80km plus and it a long day as you have to navigate out of Amsterdam. If I was doing again I would split up the first day. You will definitely need a GPS or similar as the cycle routes at some points were very poorly marked and we came to a cycle path that was closed due to maintenance and we had to backtrack. We did not reach hotel in Gouda on the first day until 8pm and then we were told that the hotel restaurant was closed on a Sunday night!! so we had to trudge off and find a place to eat. It all got better after that and I really enjoyed the variety of scenery and wildlife, the cycle by the coast, the lovely little towns and villages. The cycle path into Bruges is glorious and would love to do it again. Overall the hotels were good with some better than others. The food everywhere was excellent . My saddle was very uncomfortable and in my opinion the bikes could do with an upgrade.

I would highly recommend this trip

Six of us did this trip and had a great time. The b&b's were wonderful, along with the changes of scenery throughout the week. One of our electric bikes' chain broke but the service provided couldn't be faulted and within the hour we were on our way with a new bike. There were a couple of stretches on busy roads so probably not suitable for young children. The only 'con' was that the front pannier couldn't accommodate the book open to show both the map and directions. Not really a problem !

Fabulous wine, great beaches and not too many hills!

4

All of the accommodation was really good with friendly staff, particularly La Manson Rose where you have dinner with the hosts...a great way to get to know about the local area and culture. It would be better if a couple of vineyards tours were booked on days 2 and 3 as we could not get hold of them at such short notice or if the local representative met you at the fist hotel to arrange booking for you. It is also worth noting most vineyards are closed at the weekends so if you can plan your trip so days 2 and 3 are week days you'll get the most from your trip. Allow for a long stop at the lakes on day 4 and also plan to spend the whole day in Cap Ferret....it's a lovely place away from the crowds of Arcachon!

Cycling through varied and beautiful terrain

5

Well organized cycling tour from near Bordeaux to Arcachon. Great routes and notes identifying interesting stops. Good exercise and do-able...and we enjoyed the extra day with our hosts in Origne to relax. Especially memorable: The ride through the vineyards at the start of the trip, sharing breakfast (and one dinner) with other guests, the trails around the nature park, amazing food, quiet and comfortable lodging, and reaching beautiful Arcachon. Great trip!

I totally recommend Macs!!!

5

Really well organised holiday! Everything went smoothly. I love the fact that every couple of days the landscape changed. Vineyards, forests than seaside. Beautiful accommodation and lovely food. The cycling on the first day was a bit tough but after that it was quite easy. Can't praise Macs enough for taking the worry out of the equation. We had a nice, relaxed holiday! :D

Fantastic trip - would highly recommend

4

Kept waiting for something to go wrong! Highly organised, excellent accommodation - all very different which added to the fun; great cycling - day 1 quite hilly but worth it for the views. From vineyards, chateaux, forest trails to views of the sea, a boat trip, oyster farms, largest sand dune in Europe - all in the sun while folk at home shivered! Started each day with a fantastic breakfast. Most of the directions were great and the odd wrong turn added to the interest. Only complaint would be the weight of the bikes - heavier than we are used to. We thoroughly recommend this trip and enjoyed adding a couple of days in Bordeaux before cycling and a week in Andernos at the end. Looking forward to booking our next adventure with Macs!
