  • Re-charge your batteries in the beautiful Tramuntana Sierra Mountains
  • Stay overnight in a boutique hotel in Palma and a stylish finca hotel in Soller
  • Enjoy relaxed walks through the mountains and along the sparkling coastline
  • Visit the traditional ochre-coloured villages of Deia and Soller
  • Cosmopolitan Palma with it's Gothic Cathedral and medieval streets

Based in Mallorca’s cosmopolitan capital Palma and the village of Soller, nestled between the mountains and the sea, enjoy fantastic coastal and mountain walks on a short walking break in the Tramuntana Sierra. Relax at the end of the day in your stylish finca hotel with lush gardens, swimming pool and tranquil surroundings of orange groves and a mountain backdrop.

Spend your first night in a boutique hotel in Palma, soaking up the atmosphere of this elegant city with its quirky old quarter, before making your way to Soller by the “Orange Train” vintage railway from where you will enjoy a few days of lovely walking and sightseeing. Stroll along the coastline to Torre Picada and enjoy a walk through the mountains to the arty town of Deia before transferring back to Palma

Day 1: Arrive Palma

Arriving into Palma Airport, you will be transferred to your centrally located boutique hotel (45min) for a night in the cosmopolitan capital city.

Enjoy some of the island’s best restaurants  and the lively arts and café scene. Or take a stroll around the old quarter with its quirky buildings and Gothic cathedral.

Overnight: Palma

Day 2: Train to Soller

Board the “Orange Train” this morning (payable locally) which takes you through the Tramuntana mountains to lovely Soller. On a journey of just over an hour on this historic narrow-gauge wooden railway, sit back, relax and take in the wonderful views of the surrounding olive groves and mountains.

We recommend taking the first train of the day so that you have time on arrival to enjoy a short walk along the coast to the Torre Picada watchtower. After checking in to your hotel in Soller, you can take the "Orange Express" tram to Port de Soller on the coast (30min). Walk along quiet forest tracks and the coastal path winding through olive groves to the Torre Picada watchtower before returning to Port de Soller.

On arriving back in Port de Soller, perhaps enjoy a meal in one of restaurants lining the long sandy bay and promenade. Sipping a cool drink in a quayside café and watching the marina crews is the perfect way to finish off your day. The last tram back to Soller departs at 19:30 so you have plenty of time!

In the evening, kick your feet back at your stylish finca hotel (a large country house in a rural setting) and enjoy an evening meal of typical Mallorcan cuisine in an intimate, cosy atmosphere.

Walk to Torre Picada: 5km, 2hrs, 200m Ascent/Descent

Overnight: Soller

Day 3:Tour of the Small Villages Loop from Soller

Enjoy a tougher walk today taking you on a loop of the small villages around Soller. A steep ascent takes you up from Fornalutx, then you can enjoy a relaxing and long descent as you make your way back to Soller. The views from the top of the ridge are stunning, and worth the challenging climb

Walk: 13km, 4-5hrs, 590m Ascent/Descent

Overnight: Soller

Day 4: Walk to Deia

Enjoy a fine walk today to the picture-postcard village of Deia with its ochre-coloured houses and top-notch restaurants. Following clear paths on the GR221 away from Soller, you walk through forested areas and lush gorges with sea views appearing at points, before heading down the valley to Deia. With its honey coloured houses, Deia has inspired many artists and musicians since the 19th century, including the English poet and novelist Robert Graves. Today it is home to many little art galleries as well as some fantastic restaurants, where you can try some local specialities and tapas. Enjoy wandering around this delightful artist colony before taking one of the regular buses back to Soller.

Availability

You can start this walking tour on any day of your choice between March and June, and September to October. We don’t recommend July or August as it tends to be too hot for walking then. The best months for walking are between March and May, and September through to October, when the temperatures are a bit cooler. Mallorca is very popular and the accommodations do fill up quickly so we recommend booking as early as possible.

Time of Year

In our opinion, the best months to travel are May and September, when the temperatures are nice and pleasant for walking. Flowers will also be in full bloom in May.

Single Rooms & Solo Walkers

This trip is unfortunately not available to solo walkers as the costs are very high for single rooms and transfers which are not shared. However, if you are travelling solo and would like us to give you a price please do not hesitate to ask. Single rooms are available but a supplement is payable.

Grade & Terrain

This trip is graded as easy-moderate overall as many of the walks are optional or have shorter options. Most of the walks follow gravel and paved tracks, and you occasionally follow minor roads, with one short section on a busier road between Deia and Soller. The longest walk we have suggested is 12km, and the shortest is 9km. Of course the walks are all optional depending on how much activity you want so you can make this break as relaxing as you wish!

Navigation, Route Notes & Maps

Some of the walks are waymarked with signs for the GR221 or other local paths, and we supply detailed 1:40,000 trail maps and route notes so you should not have any problems finding your way. You will also have access to GPX tracks on our smartphone app.

Baggage Transfer

Your bags will be transferred between Palma and Soller so that you are free to travel with just your hand luggage that day and enjoy the journey on the train. /p>
