Walk of the Week: Escape to the Cotswolds

A delight of a walk which fits into a short break, or slots in perfectly to a longer visit to England. Quintessentially English, the Escape to the Cotswolds is a gem of a walking break.

In a Nutshell

The villages of the Cotswolds look and feel like a dream vision of England, with pretty thatch-roofed cottages, dainty tea-shops, and quaint side streets. The landscape is an equally dream-like picture of rolling lush green countryside. Begin in Chipping Camden, arguably the loveliest of Cotswold towns, via some historic highlights and spectacular views towards Charlton Kings.

Grade: Easy to Moderate, Most of a reasonable level of fitness will find this a relaxing break with just the right amount of activity to unwind.

Distance: 28 Miles over 3 days walking (4 nights)

That lush countryside

We've got a lot of love for the full Cotswold Way, but sometimes you just want a break, an escape, and what better way to do it than fitting in the highlights of one of England's most desirable breathing spaces into a few active days. The Escape to the Cotswolds itinerary represents a "best of" the area.

Just the right amount of activity to eliminate the guilt from an extra round of scones, but with plenty of time to unwind your mind and body. Plus, autumn (or fall for our lovely North American friends) is a wonderful time of year in the English Cotswolds, so it's a great time to take that break.

Planning your trip

Stanton, Cotswolds

Stanton, one of your overnight resting places

The Cotswolds are accessible in just a couple of hours by train from London, so an excellent option as part of a longer trip to the UK. This particular walk is structured over three walking days with four nights bed and breakfast accommodation in characterful properties.

We provide all the route notes you'll need and you are mostly following well way marked paths (meaning you can let your mind wander into the rolling countryside without worrying too much about navigation - within reason!). For any more inspiration on walking or cycling in England (or indeed beyond), get in touch with our team on info@macsadventure.com, we are always delighted to discuss travel dreams.
