Walk of the Week: Lake Como Trails

This week, we're off to Italy for a taste of 'la dolce vita' with our newest self guided walking tour, Lake Como Trails.

Where is it?

Starting in Cernobbio you will amble along mountain paths to revel in panoramas overlooking Lake Como, enjoy the tranquillity of walking forest paths, stay in agriturismo and experience fresh authentic cuisine, as well as ride the Pigra cable car 880m above the lake.

Views over Lake Como.

Why walk it?

> A popular retreat for aristocrats since Roman times, you're sure to be enthralled by the many artistic and cultural gems the towns have to offer, such as villas, palaces, and churches, like the Villa del Balbianello of James Bond fame.

> The paths that can be walked around Lake Como are well worn routes that are not overly demanding and highly rewarding with sweeping views over the lake and towns.

> Known for its temperate climate sub-tropical plants grow year-round, treating you to a lush landscape dotted with villas and admirable gardens (some of which have tropical plants).

> Rub shoulders with the rich and famous while you explore chic towns like Bellagio and Cadenabbia and enjoy evening walks along waterfront promenades.

Planning and preparation:

This 7 night walking holiday is available from May to September and is a popular destination for its landscapes, wildlife, and spas, in addition to being a venue for sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing.

For getting to your starting point we suggest flying into Milan where you can catch the train from the city centre to Como (approx.. 1 hr). From Como you can catch a ferry (15 mins) or bus (30 mins) to Cernobbio.

This tour is graded easy to moderate as the walks are around 10-15 km and no ascents over 500m nor any descent more than 760 m. If you have a good level of fitness and/or are a regular walker you should not encounter any difficulty with the walks.
