Where is it?

Bordering Belgium to the west, Germany to the East and rugged North Sea coastline, Holland may be tiny but it’s legacy of world famous explorers, artists and innovators has created just about one of the most culturally fascinating destinations in Europe.

Why?

Boats and bikes are the fabric of everyday life in Holland. The huge appeal of combining two is only having to unpack and repack just the once! Each day you’ll explore new waterways, famous cities, craft towns and meet a Dutch character or two! In the evening, from the comfort of your floating hotel you can relax over dinner, swapping sightseeing stories with your fellow cyclists. Each morning, the on board crew will advise the best cycle routes and sights for the day. If you’d prefer, you can always join one of the daily guided rides. Your bike hire is included but you can upgrade to an electric bike if your legs need a little help!

Which Trip?

Holland is superb in the spring. Flora is in full bloom, so we’d suggest our Tulips in Holland experience. Heading towards the summer months our Northern Circuit travels from Amsterdam to the rugged Frisian Isle of the Texel and in the late summer why not venture a little further and travel from Amsterdam to the Belgium city of Bruges. A fairytale city with the best beer and moules-frites in Europe.

Planning & Preparation

In Holland, bicycles are an extension of the legs. Flat, traffic-free cycle paths and friendly urban networks provide an easy going cycle experience. If you haven’t ridden for a few years, are looking for a family adventure or simply love riding your bike, pedaling through Holland is a breeze. We’d suggest getting out on your bike a few times before travelling to get the most out of your experience. If you have any other questions, our Macs Bike team have enjoyed several Boat & Bike tours to Holland so would be happy to talk to you on: 0141 530 8886 (UK) or +1 866 355 1037 (US & Canada).

Rebelling against British seaside holidays, I left the UK with my grubby backpack almost 20 years ago to explore Asia and Australia. Returning home some 18 months later, working in the adventure travel industry was a natural progression. I continued life on the road for several years working as a freelance guide across South America, Asia, Europe and Australia and was also tasked with the exciting job of launching and managing a small charity in Zambia. From working on a cattle station in Australia’s remote Kimberley region, through to cycling in the French Alps, I’ve always loved meeting the memorable characters and challenging encounters my job brings! Eventually settling back into the UK, I started on a career managing and developing walking and cycling holidays across the globe and have recently found myself in the ‘saddle’ with Macs Adventure with the lucky role of creating cycling holidays. From cycling European mountains passes through to riding across the San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, for me wheels are the best method to discover a destination.
