Cycle of the Week: Holland Bike & Boat

Holland was created for cycling. Flat, easy-going cycle paths meander alongside a network of picturesque waterways, windmills and tulip fields.

In a nutshell

Distance: Average daily distances range from 25km to 50km
Grading: Easy, Easy to Moderate

Where is it? Bordering Belgium to the west, Germany to the East and the rugged North Sea coastline, Holland may be tiny but its legacy of world-famous explorers, artists and innovators has created just about one of the most culturally fascinating destinations in Europe.

Why? Boats and bikes are the fabric of everyday life in Holland. The huge appeal of combining two is only having to unpack and repack just once! Each day you'll explore new waterways, famous cities, craft towns and meet a Dutch character or two! In the evening, from the comfort of your floating hotel, you can relax over dinner, swapping sightseeing stories with your fellow cyclists. Each morning, the onboard crew will advise the best cycle routes and sights for the day. If you'd prefer, you can always join one of the daily guided rides. Your bike hire is included but you can upgrade to an electric bike if your legs need a little help!
Which Trip? Holland is superb in the spring. Flora is in full bloom, so we'd suggest our Tulips in Holland experience. Heading towards the summer months our Northern Circuit travels from Amsterdam to the rugged Frisian Isle of the Texel and in the late summer why not venture a little further and travel from Amsterdam to the Belgium city of Bruges. A fairytale city with the best beer and moules-frites in Europe.

Planning & Preparation: In Holland, bicycles are an extension of the legs. Flat, traffic-free cycle paths and friendly urban networks provide an easy-going cycle experience. If you haven't ridden for a few years, are looking for a family adventure or simply love riding your bike, pedalling through Holland is a breeze. We'd suggest getting out on your bike a few times before travelling to get the most out of your experience.

There is no better way to immerse yourself in the Dutch biking culture than booking one of our Dutch Bike & Boat tours. This way you can cover more ground than by cycling alone, allowing you to discover interesting towns, cities, museums and art galleries on the way.
