COVID-19: Read The Latest Advice For Our Travellers

Safety Advice & Coronavirus

The spread of Coronavirus (Covid-19) has captured news headlines worldwide and we know that it is very much on the minds of our travellers, regardless of the timing of their trip or the destination.

Our priority is, and will always be, to ensure the safety and well being of our customers and staff. We understand you may be concerned, but we are here to offer as much help and advice as we can to ensure that your adventure can run smoothly and safely.

Read specific information for travellers with trip start dates until 31 May 2020 here.

The Macs Approach

We closely monitor and follow Government travel advice via the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO).  Our decision-making for customer travel will directly reflect both the FCO Advisory Levels, and any change in UK Government advice will also change our approach.

We also closely monitor the World Health Organization (WHO) for information on Coronavirus itself, the global situation and tips for prevention.

Lastly, we are in regular contact with our partners on the ground who can provide local insight and relevant details pertaining to Macs trips.

Please see our Resources section below for links to additional relevant information and useful websites.

Please contact our Customer Experience team if you have any questions or need any further advice.

How does this affect my trip?

The FCO has 3 levels of travel advisory warning. They are:

  1. No travel restrictions
  2. Advise against all but essential travel (to a specific region or country)
  3. Advise against all travel (to a specific region or country)

What if the FCO has no travel restrictions in place for my destination?

We will continue to operate trips to that country in line with UK Government advice. If you have an upcoming trip to one of these countries or regions and want to know what alternative arrangements can be made for you, then you have the following options:

  1. If your trip is more than 6 weeks away, we recommend that you wait until closer to your travel dates to allow for more information to present itself. The situation is ever-changing, and it is impossible to predict the status of travel for your dates. There is no further financial commitment necessary until your balance is due 6 weeks from travel. However, if you do wish to look at changing your plans, you have the following options:

a) If you would like to change your destination: contact our Customer Experience team to find out what changes are possible for your trip.  No cancellation fees will be applied (excluding Bike & Boat itineraries and other selected tours). We will instead apply a £100 per person service charge in this scenario to make the amendment.

b) While we normally treat a change of date as a cancellation of services, we understand that you may wish to change your dates within the same year or postpone until next year.  Please contact our Customer Experience team to discuss the possibility of changing dates or delaying your trip for travel in 2021.  No cancellation fees will be applied (excluding Bike & Boat itineraries and other selected tours).  We will instead apply a £100 per person service charge in this scenario to make the amendment.

c) You can choose to cancel your holiday; our standard booking conditions will still apply. Please contact our Customer Experience team to discuss the costs and timing for a trip cancellation. We would suggest you contact your insurance company to inquire about recovering any cancellation costs.

  1. If your trip is within the next 6 weeks and you wish to change your plans, our usual cancellation terms apply and we suggest you contact your travel insurers for advice on recovering any cancellation costs. Please contact our Customer Experience team to discuss the costs and timing for a trip cancellation.

Please note that countries may have entry restrictions for travellers who have visited or are arriving from countries where there has been major Coronavirus outbreaks within the past 14 days. Please check the FCO updates regularly to see if this affects you, or check in with your Embassy if you are already abroad in an affected country or region.

What happens if the FCO advises against ‘all but essential travel’ or against ‘all travel’?

We will comply with the advice from the FCO and will not operate in countries or regions where the government advice is against travelling.

  1. If your trip is more than 6 weeks away, please continue to check FCO advice and call our office if you have any questions.  If you do wish to change, postpone or cancel your trip more than 6 weeks prior to your scheduled departure date, then the following options are open to you:

a) If you would like to change your destination: contact our Customer Experience team to find out what changes are possible for your trip.  No cancellation fees will be applied (excluding Bike & Boat itineraries and other selected tours). We will instead apply a £100 per person service charge in this scenario to make the amendment.

b) While we normally treat a change of date as a cancellation of services, we understand that you may wish to change your dates or postpone until next year.  Please contact our Customer Experience team to discuss the possibility of delaying your trip until 2021.  No cancellation fees will be applied (excluding Bike & Boat itineraries and other selected tours).  We will instead apply a £100 per person service charge in this scenario to make the amendment.

c) Cancellation: you are able to cancel your adventure, and our standard booking conditions will still apply. Please contact our Customer Experience team to discuss the costs and timing for a trip cancellation. We would suggest you contact your insurance company to inquire about recovering any cancellation costs.

  1. If your trip start date is between 42 days and 2 weeks we will contact you to discuss alternate travel plans.  No service charge will be applied. Options include:

a) Postponing your travel date to later in 2020 or 2021

b) Changing to another destination (subject to availability)

c) Cancelling your trip, however, our usual cancellation terms will apply.
