Cycle across the sunny volcanic island of Lanzarote, known for its year round warm weather, beaches and bike friendly roads.

Tick off the best road cycling routes of Lanzarote as you follow sweeping Atlantic coastlines and rugged hill climbs. Pedal through the volcanic cones of Parque de Timanfaya, ascend the switch backs of Mirador del Rio and take an optional day trip to cycle on the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura.

Post ride, end each day at the poolside of your country or coastal acommodation before refuelling on local seafood dishes of grilled octopus or salted cod.

2018 departures, will stay in Costa Teguise for 2 nights and complete a loop ride to Haria on day 2. Itinerary updates will be published in January 2018.

Day 1 Arrive Costa Teguise

Easily reached from Arrecife Airport, the first night’s hotel is found in the coastal town of Costa Teguise (10-15min taxi journey). Depending on your arrival time you may have time to head to beach for some late afternoon sun and relaxation.

Day 2 Costa Teguise to Haria

After your bike fitting, ride out via the coastal roads to the Haria, village of a thousand palms. Swinging inland, the coastal roads give way to a volcanic landscape as you begin the steady cat 3 climb to the Mirador viewpoint where you can absorb the panoramic coastal views. From here it is a roll down to Haria to the pool and gardens of your finca accommodation this evening.

Ascent / Descent: 795m / 515m

Overnight: Haria

Day 3 Harίa to San Bartolomé

Leaving Haria behind, the descent to the former capital, Teguise, provides panoramic views across the coastline. Teguise itself provides a charming coffee stop before continuing into the winelands of Lanzarote and the town of San Bartolomé where you will spend the next two nights.

Ascent / Descent: 710m / 710m

Overnight: San Bartolomé

Day 4 San Bartolomé

This morning cycle to the beach of Famara with its impressive backdrop of volcanic cliffs. Following the northern coastline of Lanzarote, return to your country house accommodation across the lunar landscape the island is famed for.

Cycle: 50km

Ascent / Descent: 445m / 445m

Overnight: San Bartolomé

Day 5 San Bartolomé to Playa Blanca

From San Bartolomé, tap out a steady rhythm as you climb towards the island’s main attraction, Parque Nacional de Timanfaya. This grandiose, multi-coloured volcanic landscape stretches over 50 square km where volcanic eruptions have left a unique and rugged landscape. Continuing south, reach the thriving village of Playa Blanca where you can look over to neighbouring island, Fuerteventura from the beach.

Cycle: 47km or 58km

Ascent / Descent: 375m / 635m

Overnight: Playa Blanca

Day 6 Playa Blanca

Waking up to the views of Fuerteventura, you can choose to jump on the boat across to Corralejo (approx 30 min crossing), at the northern tip of Fuerteventura and complete an easy cycle loop of the northern section of the island. Alternatively, take in a shorter ride around the nearby coves and unspoilt beaches of Lanzarote’s Atlantic coastline.

Cycle: 36km or 70km

Ascent / Descent: 530m / 530m

Overnight: Playa Blanca

Day 7 Playa Blanca to Arrecife

The last day of cycling heads across the hills of Femés and through the wine valley of La Geria. An unique and fascinating landscape where grape vines flourish, it is definitely worth pausing in the saddle for a photo of this spectacular geology. Return to Arrecife is by way of gentle coastal roads. In the evening explore this vibrant town and a last evening of local fresh seafood.

Ascent / Descent: 475m / 495m

Overnight: Arrecife

Day 8 Onward Travel

After breakfast, you may have time to explore Arrecife some more before making the short return taxi journey to the airport (4km).


Each evening will be spent in 3* fincas (country houses) or 4* hotels. We will always try and accommodate you at the locations detailed below, but on occasion, especially during peak season, we use an alternate accommodation of equal or higher standard. Examples of accommodation are listed below.

Single Rooms & Solo Cyclists

If you're travelling with family or friends but prefer your own room, this can be arranged for a supplementary payment. This trip is also suitable for solo travellers. Prices for solo cyclists can be found on our dates and prices page.


Breakfast is included each day at your hotel and usually consists of fresh pastries, breads, fruits, yogurts, cheeses, meats and granola. If you have special dietary requirements do let us know at the time of booking.  Lunches and dinners are not included but there are places to stop along the way but do remember many shops and restaurants close for siesta from mid-afternoon through to early evening. As you will be staying
the heart of each village or town, there are extensive cafes and
restaurants to choose from in the evening. You will find a number of
recommendations in your local information pack.

Finish cycling across Lanzarote in style at this 4* spa hotel. With easy access to the old town of Arrecife you can choose to realx poolside or explore the old town of Arrecife.





You can begin Road Cycling Lanzarote  on any Saturday throughout the year. However, if you are a group of 4 or more you can start on any day of the week.

Grade & Terrain

This tour is graded moderate as distances range from 40-70km with daily ascents between 500m-700m. The trip is perfect for road cyclists that are looking to add sunshine to their winter rides and is also a great trip for roadies new to cycling, looking for their first taste of riding cycle friendly roads under the sun! With a blend of coastal roads and short climbs, Lanzarote can get windy, so is perfect for keeping the legs well tuned!

Baggage Transfer

Your bags will be collected from your accommodation each day and moved onto your overnight accommodation. We ask you to limit your luggage to one bag of up to 20kg per person.

Bike Hire

Cannondale Synapse or Evo (or similar) are available for hire. All rental bikes come with pedals (shimano or look), basic tool kit, a lock and a pump.  Please supply us with your height when selecting your bike.

We also know that bikes are extension of the rider so if you would like to bring your own bike, please ensure it is an appropriate road bike for this trip. We would also suggest the bike is thoroughly serviced prior to travel.

Travel Insurance

It is a requirement of booking this tour with Macs Adventure that you have suitable travel insurance which covers you for the activity and emergency evacuation and hospital care.

General Information

The distances and ascent/descents are approximations of the recommended routes.  Please be prepared by packing all necessary items, for example, proper rain gear (jacket and pants), sun hat, sunscreen. Your information pack has a detailed equipment list which includes standard cycling gear.

Getting to / from Arrecife Airport (Lanzarote)

By Air: Arrecife Airport is located 14km from your Costa Teguise where your trip starts. It iss very easy to get a taxi on arrival and should cost around €20. If you would like to arrange transfers in advance please contact the office.

Your trip ends in Arrecife which is only a short 4km taxi ride from Arrecife Airport. Taxis from the Arrecife to the airport can easily be arranged by your hotel and should cost around €10.

Arrecife Airport is served by most European and low-cost carriers throughout the year.

How far in advance do I need to book?

We suggest you book as soon as your plans are finalised as this region is extremely popular especially October to May.

When is the best time of year?

Lanzarote is renowned for its sunny climate and cycle friendly roads, it is a popular getaway during the December festive period and from February to May and September through to December. Into the summmer months (June to August), the temperatures reach 35+ degrees and the roads do become busiers with buses and hire cars from the influx of summer holidaymakers.
