There's something about walking with the sea on one side and open sky above you that makes everything else fall away. The UK's coastline is one of the world's great walking landscapes - over 11,000 miles of it, ranging from the thundering Atlantic cliffs of Cornwall to the wide, empty beaches of Northumberland and the rugged headlands of Pembrokeshire. A coastal walking holiday in the UK isn't just a walk. It's a proper adventure, with a different view at every turn and a comfortable bed waiting at the end of each day.

At Macs Adventure, we've been arranging self-guided walking holidays since 2003 - and coastal routes are some of our favourites to plan. We take care of everything behind the scenes: accommodation booked, luggage transfers arranged, route notes written, and maps in our award-winning app before you leave home. You decide where to go, when to go, and choose from our range of itineraries how far to walk each day. That's it. No compromise, no group dynamics, no one setting the pace but you.

Whether you're dreaming of the South West Coast Path from Cornwall to Dorset, the wild shores of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, or a quieter week on the Fife Coastal Path in Scotland. Our team knows these paths well - the sections worth lingering on, the best places to stop for lunch, the hidden beaches that don't make the guidebooks. That local knowledge is yours from the moment you book. Ready to get started? Browse our UK coastal walking holidays below and find your perfect route.

  • Coastal Walking Holidays - Frequently Asked Questions

Do I Need to Be an Experienced Walker?
No - but you should be reasonably fit. Most coastal routes cover 8-15 miles (13-24kms) per day, often on uneven ground with ups and downs. We grade every trip clearly, so you can choose a route that matches your fitness and walking experience.

What Should I Pack for a Coastal Walking Holiday in the UK?
Pack layers for changing coastal weather: waterproofs, broken-in walking boots, wicking base layers, a warm mid-layer, and sun protection. Walking poles can help on hillier routes. We’ll send a detailed kit list after booking.

    How Are the Routes Planned?
Our routes follow official waymarking where possible, backed up by our own route notes in the app. You’ll get timings, gradient info, suggested lunch stops, and notes on things like tidal crossings or seasonal diversions before you travel.

What’s the Best Time of Year for Coastal Walking in the UK?
May to September is the most popular time for coastal walking, with longer days and more settled weather. October can also be a good option for quieter trails. Winter trips are possible on some routes but need more preparation.

Can I Walk with a Partner or Small Group?
Yes - most customers travel as a couple or small group. Our self-guided walking holidays let you set your own pace without joining a guided group. Prices are usually based on two people sharing, and single rooms may be available too.

What’s the Difference Between a Self-Guided and a Guided Coastal Walk?
On a guided walk, you travel with a group and leader. With Macs Adventure, you walk independently with your chosen travel companions, while we arrange your accommodation, luggage transfers, and route guidance through our app.

Why Choose Macs Adventure for Your Coastal Walking Holiday?
  • Discover Luxury Coastal Walking Holidays UK

Self-guided doesn't mean roughing it. For walkers who want to combine the freedom of the trail with the comfort of a proper bed, a good meal, and somewhere to dry out wet kit, our coastal walking holidays include hand-picked accommodation chosen for quality as much as location.

What distinguishes a Macs Adventure coastal walking holiday from booking it yourself isn't just the admin we take on - it's the years of knowledge that go into selecting where you stay. We look for places with drying rooms, early breakfasts, and owners who understand what walkers need after a long day. Character matters too: a stone-built farmhouse on the Pembrokeshire cliffs, a harbourside B&B in a Cornish fishing village, a proper Scottish guesthouse where dinner is worth staying in for.

For walkers who want to push things further, we offer upgraded accommodation options - boutique hotels, rooms with sea views, and places that genuinely earn the word "special". See the best of Cornwall's Coast In Style and dine at the Rick Stein iconic seafood restaurants.
