Walk of the Week: Hill Towns of Tuscany
This Thursday will see ten horses, ten riders, and thousands of spectators packed into the Piazza del Campo for Il Palio. The Palio di Siena is a horse race that takes place in the main square of Siena, Italy, twice-yearly in July and in August. This race has been held since medieval and marks one of the most important days in the calendar for the citizens of Siena. The ten riders are chosen from the seventeen contrade, or wards, of the city. For more information on this fascinating event, please click here.
