Walk of the Week: Stavanger to Bergen - Drive & Hike

Many of us here at Macs Adventure have a walking bucket list: a selection of walks that we aim to complete in our lifetime. You might be wondering how a walk makes it onto a bucket list? It can be for any reason, but usually 3 words can be used to describe such walks; unique, beautiful, and challenging. The Stavanger to Bergen Drive & Hike tour offers the chance to tick three bucket list-worthy walks off any self-respecting bucket list - Preikestolen, Kjeragbolten and Trolltunga.

The Trolltunga

In a Nutshell:

Where? Starting in the 2008 European Capital of Culture, Stavanger which is a small but lively city you then drive eastwards towards the historically important town of Rjukan before driving northbound through the lush Hardanger region before finishing your trip in perhaps the most beautiful of Norway's cities, Bergen.

Distance: The trip offers multiple walking options, however there is a total walking distance of 94km over the course of 9 days.

Grade: The tour is given an overall grade of moderate with walking times between 3 - 8 hours per day with some serious ascents. It should be noted that there are some walks graded as moderate-strenuous however, being a drive & hike, each walk is optional. With stunning walking from start to finish the Stavanger to Bergen Drive & Hike is a challenging but rewarding experience.

Why Walk Here?

 - Complete Norway's classic hikes; the Preikestolen (Preacher's or Pulpit Rock), the Kjerag, and the Trolltunga - some of the most adrenaline fuelled and memorable walks on offer.

- Explore some of Norway's most important cities including Stavanger, the industrial heart of Norway, and Bergen a beautiful university city that began as a Hanseatic trading post in 1070.

- Visit places such as Rjukan, the site of one of the most daring and successful sabotage operations of the Second World War and Lofthus 'the orchard of Norway', the small village is the centre of Norwegian fruit production and the rows of fruit trees stretch far up the slopes of the Sørfjorden - a sight to behold.
